Did You Know Comedian and Actress Kim Coles is an HBCU Grad?

This native of Brooklyn, New York, attended North Carolina Central University before she began her career in comedy and modeling. Coles worked as a successful plus-size model by day and performed at local comedy clubs by night. She made her television debut on “It’s Showtime at the Apollo” in the 1980s before becoming a regular on the popular comedy sketch show “In Living Color” in the 1990s.

Her extensive acting career includes movies and shows like “A Black Lady Sketch Show,” “The Soul Man,” “Love That Girl,” “One and One,” “My Wife and Kids,” “Martin,” and more.

Of all of her movie and television roles, she will always be most known as Overton Wakefield Jones’ only true love, Synclaire James-Jones, on the hit show “Living Single.”

Kim Coles has been a successful entertainer for over 35 years, but today she has expanded her repertoire to include motivational speaking and coaching. Coles says, “I have taken my experiences as an actress and comedian to speak life into company culture so you can create an environment where employees can shine and grow.” Her passion for “supporting and training entrepreneurs, business owners, and leaders” has led her to share her gifts in a whole new way.

Kim Coles’ career is flourishing, and she continues to utilize her talents in many different arenas. She is a prime example of an HBCU alum operating in excellence.
