West Virginia State University Named Among Best Online Colleges in West Virginia
Posted By: Kennedy Williams on November 21, 2022

West Virginia State University (WVSU) has been named a Best Online College in West Virginia for 2023 by Intelligent.com, an industry resource for online degree rankings and higher education planning.

Intelligent.com researched more than 3,000 colleges and universities for its 2023 rankings, evaluating each program by the strength of its academic quality, graduation rate, cost and ROI, and student resources.

“West Virginia State University is proud to offer online learning degree options for students located anywhere,” said WVSU Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. J. Paige Carney. “In this ever-changing, post-pandemic world, online degrees are often a more convenient option for those wishing to pursue a college education and we are fortunate to be able to offer those students this opportunity.”

WVSU was awarded Best HBCU on the final list of higher education institutions in the state of West Virginia.

Intelligent.com implemented a methodology that ranks each institution on a scale from 0 to 100 across six categories. The scoring system compares each school according to tuition costs, admission, retention and graduation rates, faculty, and reputation, as well as the student resources provided for online students.

WVSU offers a variety of online degree programs including in business administration, criminal justice, English/technical writing, health science, and regents bachelor of arts, as well as online graduate degrees in educational leadership and criminal justice administration.

Studies show that obtaining a college degree increases income substantially, with graduates earning 84% more than those with only high school diplomas or those without a completed GED. The percentage difference in earnings continues to grow with higher learning degrees, such as master’s, doctoral, or professional degrees, with the unemployment rate decreasing to as much as 1.6% for those with a doctorate.
