Miles College Celebrates the Men’s & Women’s Basketball Team Accomplishments
Posted By: S. Moore on March 07, 2023

FAIRFIELD, Al – This past weekend the Miles College Men’s and Women’s basketball teams played in the 2023 SIAC Basketball Championship in Savannah Georgia. The championship games were held on Saturday with the Miles College women falling to the Tuskegee University Women’s Tigers 65-54.

“First and foremost I’m thankful for the opportunity to coach these amazing young women. These young ladies were fantastic and did everything we asked on and off the court. With the young team that we have, expect to see us back in the SIAC championship again next year because we aren’t going anywhere. We thank you for all of the support and please bring it back next year.” said Coach, Pete Asmond.

The Miles College Men’s basketball went up against Lane College defeating them 60-46 to bring home the SIAC Championship.

Coach Watson, the head coach of the Men’s Basketball team and Athletic Director, has now won three of his last four visits to the SIAC championship since beginning with the College in 2018. His team showcased their talents, allowing all viewers to see what they can accomplish and what to look forward to in their games in the Division II playoff tournament.

Miles College Men’s Basketball team currently holds one of the eight-seed slots in the Division II tournament and will compete against Nova Southeastern. The Golden Bears finished with a 20-6 overall record and a 15-5 conference record in the regular season.

“This win is validation. The men worked extremely hard and the hard work paid off. Our main goal for the season was to get the point we are at now. We set the goal and we accomplished it, together. I know the men will continue to make us proud and we are so thankful for the support we’re receiving from everyone.” said Coach Fred Watson
