Posted By: S. Moore on October 19, 2023 Fisk University has appointed alumna Valencia Jordan as its new Director of Athletics, a role that brings her back to her alma mater. Jordan, a former volleyball standout at the HBCU, played for Fisk from 1981 to 1982, HBCU Buzz reports. Expressing her enthusiasm for the position, Jordan stated, “Being an AD is a dream come true for me. Coming full circle to Fisk is an honor. So much rich tradition here. Now it is time to make some new history. There are some great people here. I look forward to getting to work and making Fisk school athletes want to attend.” Jordan is taking over for Corrinne Tarver, who held the position since March. Jordan brings a wealth of experience in athletic leadership. She was affiliated with Tennessee State University from 1989 to 2021, holding various roles. This included coaching volleyball from 1992 to 1994, serving as assistant women’s basketball coach in 2000, and then being promoted to head coach in 2001. She later ascended to the position of associate athletic director and senior woman administrator at TSU. In November of 2022, Jordan took on the role of special programs coordinator at the Metropolitan Davidson County Parks Department. Head Men’s Basketball Coach Kenny Anderson praised Jordan, saying, “I have heard nothing but good things about her. She knows a lot of people, so it will be great for her to be our leader. The team is excited to have her on board.” SOURCE Because of Them We Can If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
