Grambling State University Unveils State-of-the-Art Indoor Athletic Facility

Grambling State University Unveils State-of-the-Art Indoor Athletic Facility
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on August 20, 2025

Grambling State University today unveiled the design for a state-of-the-art Indoor Athletic Training and Performance Facility, a bold investment made possible through state funding that underscores the University's commitment to enhancing the student-athlete experience, advancing year-round training, and carrying forward the storied legacy of Tiger Athletics.

The design concept represents a commitment to the future of Grambling State's student-athletes-supporting their growth on the field, in the classroom, and as leaders who continue the University's proud tradition. Serving as a cornerstone for athletic excellence, the facility will provide access to top-tier resources-including a 70-yard turf field, climate-controlled training space, and dedicated areas for sports medicine, strength development, and team preparation. These enhancements reinforce Grambling State's dedication to preparing champions for every arena of life while positioning the University among leaders in athletic innovation and infrastructure across Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

"This design concept is more than an idea-it's a promise," said Dr. Trayvean Scott, Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics. "We are preparing champions who will carry forward the legacy of Grambling State.

This facility is designed with them in mind, ensuring our student-athletes have the tools to compete and excel in every season."

Highlights of the planned facility include:
A 70-yard turf field supporting football, track, and multipurpose training
Climate-controlled space for year-round conditioning and drills
Advanced lighting and video systems for film review and performance analysis
Designated areas for sports medicine, strength training, and team meetings

This project demonstrates a powerful investment in the future of Grambling State Athletics. It reflects the University's drive to build resources that strengthen athletic programs, enhance student-athlete development, and continue Grambling's tradition of excellence.

"Supporting our student-athletes means investing in every dimension of their journey-athletic, academic, and personal," said Grambling State President Martin Lemelle, Jr. "This facility embodies that vision. It is more than a space to train; it is a commitment to their well-being, their preparation, and their legacy. At Grambling State, we are not simply building for today-we are creating pathways that ensure future generations of student-athletes have the resources, opportunities, and support to thrive at the highest level."

A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Friday, October 10th, 2025 adjacent to Eddie G. Robinson Memorial Stadium. Conceptual renderings released today offer a first look at the modern design and vision for the facility. Alumni, fans, and media will be invited to witness the start of this transformative project.
