Fisk University Summer Reading Program presented by the Reavis Mitchell Distinguished Lecture Series Join us for a powerful conversation with acclaimed author Nancy Johnson, as she discusses her latest novel, "People of Means"—a compelling story that weaves together history, identity, and the enduring legacy of Fisk University. Set in 1959, People of Means follows a young Black woman as she begins her journey at Fisk during the height of the nonviolent movement. The novel brings to life key pieces of the Fisk story—from Jefferson Street and Meharry Medical College to First Baptist Church Capitol Hill—before moving into a contemporary timeline that reflects on generational truth and transformation. Nancy Johnson, author of "The Kindest Lie," draws inspiration from iconic Fisk voices, including insights from renowned alumna Nikki Giovanni, to enrich the authenticity of this narrative. This is a celebration of our heritage, our resilience, and our future. #FiskUniversity #PeopleOfMeans #HBCUStories #ReavisMitchellLectureSeries #FiskReads #SummerReading If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
