Lincoln University to Host Virginia Union at Lincoln Financial Field This Fall
Posted By: Will Moss on July 22, 2026

Lincoln University will bring HBCU football back to Lincoln Financial Field this fall when the Lions host Virginia Union University at the Philadelphia Eagles’ home stadium, marking a significant moment for historically Black college football in the region.

The matchup will see Lincoln University, Pennsylvania’s oldest HBCU, face off against Virginia Union at the venue commonly known as “the Linc,” providing both institutions with a platform to showcase their programs on a major professional sports stage.

Key Takeaway: HBCU football is returning to Lincoln Financial Field, giving Lincoln University and Virginia Union University the opportunity to compete at one of the premier NFL stadiums in the country.

Lincoln University, founded in 1854 in Chester County, Pennsylvania, has a storied athletic tradition and competes in NCAA Division II. The university’s football program has long been a source of pride for the institution and its alumni community. Meanwhile, Virginia Union University, located in Richmond, Virginia, brings its own rich football heritage to the contest as a member of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA).

A Platform for HBCU Athletics

The decision to host the game at Lincoln Financial Field represents more than just a change of venue — it provides both universities with increased visibility and the chance to attract larger crowds than typical campus stadiums allow.

Professional stadiums have increasingly become popular venues for HBCU classics and showcase games, drawing attention to the unique culture and competitive spirit of Black college football.

What to Watch: The game will give both programs exposure to recruits, alumni, and fans in the Philadelphia metropolitan area, one of the largest media markets on the East Coast.

Lincoln Financial Field, home to the Philadelphia Eagles, has previously hosted HBCU football events and is well-suited to accommodate the pageantry and tradition that accompany Black college football games, including marching band performances and spirited fan sections that are hallmarks of the HBCU game-day experience.

Why It Matters: Hosting HBCU football at professional venues elevates the visibility of Black college athletics, strengthens institutional brands, and creates memorable experiences for students, alumni, and supporters while introducing new audiences to HBCU culture.

The return of HBCU football to the Linc continues a growing trend of historically Black colleges and universities securing dates at major venues across the country. These games serve as both athletic competitions and cultural celebrations, drawing thousands of fans and generating economic impact for host cities while honoring the legacy and traditions of Black college sports.

Additional details about the game, including the specific date and ticket information, are expected to be announced as the fall season approaches.
