How to Handle Acne as a College Student
(full story below)
If you’ve suffered with acne in your teenage years, it’s not uncommon to expect your acne to dissipate as you enter your adult years. Unfortunately, adult acne numbers continue to rise. When you’re in college, it can be such a stressful, chaotic time in your life. The last thing you want to add on top of the stress is a face filled with pimples. If you’d like to learn how to handle acne as a college student, consider the following tips.

Avoid Dairy

Do all you can to avoid dairy products. Oftentimes, hormones are pumped into the cows to produce more. These hormones stay in the dairy products you consume. When those hormones mix with your body’s makeup, this can result in acne. In addition to avoiding dairy, pay attention to your overall diet. For many people, dairy is the culprit behind their intense acne breakouts. However, it might be another food group for you. Be mindful of what you eat and how it impacts your overall system.

Use the Right Products

When you use cleansers, moisturizers and healing balms, make sure they’re geared toward acneic skin. Try to use a CBD facial moisturizer, as it can contain healing benefits for acneic skin. Look for ingredients such as salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide in your acne face cleansers. Use toners, serums and masks that can attack acne, eliminate inflammation and heal the skin as well.

Clean and Sanitize Surfaces

If you don’t change your pillowcases on a regular basis, now is a great time to start. As your face spends hours on your pillow each night, a lot of dirt and sebum can cultivate a breeding ground for acne breakouts. If you rest your chin on your hands or touch your face a lot, stop this habit as your hands can transfer a lot of bacteria to your face. If you place your smartphone to your face in order to hold conversations, consider using headphones instead. Unless you clean and sanitize the surface of your phone, it can allow a lot of bacteria to wreak havoc on your skin as well.

See a Dermatologist

There are times when the acne is too hard to handle on your own. When this happens, seeing the campus doctor to get a prescription can help. Whether you need to start taking Retin-A or another prescription drug, don’t be afraid to seek a professional for help. Some acne is easy to get rid of. Other forms of acne are pervasive, intense and resilient. Beat it with the help of prescriptions and the watchful eye of a doctor.
Between the use of these methods, it won’t be long before you’re able to fully rid yourself of your acne. Though it can be tough while you’re dealing with it, know that it’s not the end of the world. As you develop the right rituals, your acne will become a mere memory of the past.
