SIGMA GAMMA RHO SORORITY, INC. & SISTERS NETWORK® INC. PARTNER IN FIGHT AGAINST BREAST CANCER
(full story below)
In recognition of October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and Sisters Network® Inc., the only national African American breast cancer survivorship organization in the United States announced a first-time strategic partnership to raise awareness of the fight against breast cancer.

With a commitment to sisterhood and service to their community, both Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and Sisters Network® Inc. embrace a mission to enhance the quality of life for women and their families in the U.S. and globally through early detection, education, and support services.

“We are excited about this unique opportunity to partner with the Sisters Network to not only raise awareness and win the fight against breast cancer, but also to provide funding for mammograms for our underserved communities,” said Rasheeda Liberty, International Grand Basileus, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority. “Knowing that Black women are more likely to be diagnosed at later stages and succumb at a greater rate, we are intentional in this partnership to market best practices for early detection, encourage annual mammograms, and educate others on risk factors to save lives.”

Statistics show that Black women are 42% more likely to succumb to breast cancer than white women. Low-income and uninsured women are less likely to be screened overall. However, according to the American Cancer Society, there is a 99% chance of survival when detected early. During National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and Sisters Network®. will provide programming to educate women on the importance of their health and wellness.
