ok i was talkin to my mom about howard and she said she was kinda nervous about me being so far away from any type of family (we live in cali) and how the closest family i have is in atlanta...so my question is how far are yall from family and did distance affect your college choice?

I am from Houston and I got to school in VA. It isn't as far as Cali is from DC, but it is a bit of a distance. To answer your question distance did play a big factor in my decision. I was ready to leave. All I was thinkin was heck yea... I'm leaving this place. It was a good chance to experience a new enviornment. When you go to school you will meet people that are from the area. They eventually become your extended family, so it becomes less hard to be away from home. You also become a little more independent if you aren't already. All in all it is a growing and learning experience more than a burden.

im a senior in high school tryna go to Spelman (i applied early action, waitin on my letter, prayerfully) and my mom prefers that i go away b/c she thinks thats the only way i'll grow and be my own person. i live in DC so moving to ATL would be a great distance for me, but im embracing the distance cuz i think thats when i'll truly develop myself and who i am. plus, im always wit my sister so it'll give me a chance to be my own person
