ACADEMICALLY ELITE HBCU???

I was just wondering which HBCUs are known to have the highest academic standards and best reputation for excellence? I did a little research on it before, but the only schools I can still remember are... Howard Morehouse Clark Spelman FAMU Hampton Dillard Stillman Xavier Tuskegee I know there were at least one or two more on my original list, but can't remember what they were. Any glaring omissions? Also, what academic area are these schools best known for? For example, I know FAMU has an excellent reputation for business. Finally, what are the top 2 or 3 HBCUs to attend for an education degree? I know that's a lot of info to ask for, but I have 3 or 4 friends considering attending HBCUs that are asking me for advice, and I don't know enough to tell them. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hotep, All of those are good schools but I really don't know to much about Dillard. I presently attend the WU and we are bringing back the luster of our program. Prince Wilberforce University Political Science 07

I searched through the forum, and the "official" rankings I found were... 1 Spelman College 2 Morehouse College 3 Howard University 4 Florida A&M University (business) 5 Clark Atlanta University 6 Hampton University (law) 7 Xavier University (medical) 8 Tuskegee University (engineering) 9 North Carolina A&T University 10 Bethume Cookman College Anyone know anything about the last two schools on this list, because I haven't heard much about them. Also, any info about Dillard, Stillman, or Fisk since they were left off the list? I've already put the HNBC's specialty in parentheses (sp?) above, and any additions/ corrections are appreciated.

There are about 37 million Aggies on here. Most of them seem cool so i'm sure they will be able to answer any questions you have about A&T. But all HBCU's are good for different reasons and shine in different programs. Maybe you should find out the specific rankings for Education majors. I apologize because I cannont help you with that one. It's just not my area

A&T is probably most well known for it's College of Engineering. It is the #1 producers of black engineers in the nation.

If you've been researching and you've not heard anything about North Carolina A&T State University, then you've been looking in the wrong places. We have one of the top Engineering schools in the nation (we were 8th in the nation when I got here, but that was 2001, I dunno where we are now). We also are the only HBCU with an Animal Science/Pre Vet program. The rest of our programs follow suit, but you'll find some better ones at a few other schools.
