Greeks: What/Who was your motivation to pursue membership into your respective organization? GDI's: What/Who is your motivation to pursue* membership into the organization you are interested in? *Replying discretion is advised I'll start... My motivation came from the interaction that I had with A Phi A since I first became a Bulldog. I started my attendance at SC State during the Summer of 2003 through The SCAMP program. Because a majority of the Alpha's came through this program, they were used as mentors/tutors for the incoming freshmen. On top of that, the man who is over the program, is the advisor of the chapter who eventually became a father figure to me. Because they showed me so much love when I wasn't Frat, that showed me that they have a genuine brotherhood that I want to be a part of and finally became a part of. So my motivation was the realness that these boys showed me and how they represented themselves on our campus. if this has already been a topic, then my bad :? ; post anyway Tongue out

Greeks: What/Who was your motivation to pursue membership into your respective organization? Since most of the women in my family that are in sororities are in another org. I'd have to say at first (in my younger days, of course) I was driven by the stereotypes. We all hear them but I listened and was like, yea that's me. I used to go to step shows and look at the Deltas...how did they act on and off the stage? When I really got serious about it I did my research and fell in love with it. I started wanting to know more and more and I worked to ensure that I could be a Delta. Here I am!

GDI's: What/Who is your motivation to pursue* membership into the organization you are interested in? *Replying discretion is advised To tell you the truth, I really didn't think I would be interested in any fraternity because I'm not really the pledging type. However the organization I am pursuing truly has my ideals and values in mind and I really like what they do around the campus. After doing much research I finally figured that this is something I really want to be apart of. Quick question about that discretion thing, if we're "supposed" to be all discreet and stuff, why do a lot of white schools have a Rush? I mean you pretty much know what everyone wants to do then.

The sorority�s founders laid exceptional ground work to build an organization that would better mankind. The service that XYZ is no doubt its� trademark. It is best described as giving to those who don�t have the opportunities that we have been given. As I continued to scratch the surface of this organization, I was able to see the meaning of membership exemplified in countless members that I researched and/or encountered. Also, it is clear to see that women of this organization are pioneering, bold and very determined. Most importantly, XYZ is an organization that is not complacent. She is always striving to do more. Those things motivate me towards membership.

Aight...Im bout to get real honest with yall right quick...as honest as Ill ever be on this issue that is, and as respectful as I can.... My ORIGINAL interest came my junior year of high school when I was on a black college tour and one of our stops was at Alabama State...and one of our tour guides happen to be a member of XYZ and she was really nice and whatnot...and I noticed how during the tour she ran into some of her sorors and how they greeted each other and just seemed to have a lotta love between each other. So thats what sparked my interest in sororites from jump and then i started research about her org and from then I had a genuine interest in it and being able to do it... Fast forwarding about 3 and a half years later where im at now in life...About to be a junior in college and still not having really " pursued " becoming XYZ like I thought I would...I have no problem with really saying this, but Im not as passionate as I was before...And in reading alot of the things on this board...I question if its worth it FOR ME...and thats not to say things I have read on this board have negatively swayed my decision to not really go after being XYZ, but its DEFINITELY made me look at things at another angle...an angle that I needed to see it from. And aside from that...just seeing how greek life at FAMU is nothing more than a popularity contest and a WHO'S WHO of SGA .... I dont wanna say that I dont wanna be apart of that organization...I just dont want to be apart of the things I see go on. Of course I am looking from the outside in and things may be very different on the inside, but thats all I can go by is what I see, because im not " in. " And the irony of the situation is that I just KNEW my freshmean year at FAM i was gonna IG and get to know people of that org, and I originally had no interest whatsoever in doing OES or researching about it...And in becoming friends with Masons and Stars it sparked my interest to learn about that, and I eventually pursued that and did what I had to do and got initiated. And as a freshmanI also think I was intimadated with trying to get to know the members of that org at the time because " discretion " and not wanting to be SOOO obvious that your interested and it made me take a step back...Cause at that time I was just completely unsure of what a wrong or right move was in expressing interest...so i didnt, while with OES its completely different. If you interested you just say it. " 2 b 1 ask 1 " its that simple as far as just expressing interest along with doin personal research. I mean 2 years later and in seein how things are done I think Im pretty confident about the correct protocol of being an aspirant expressing interest...but at that time I wasnt. And now that I have joined the Order pursuing greekdom just isnt as important to me as it was before. Im still very interested ( if i werent I wouldnt be on this board every day ) but my passion to do it has dwindled alot. I have alotta respect for the D9 but if I were to do it I would prolly do it on the graduate level...And it has NOTHING to do with the " process " ...I went thru OES...lol. And it has nothing to do with the actual XYZ sorority. It just has to do with what I see go on with the chapters on my campus, and it makes me question alot... And its funny...cause I can recall how many times Laidback typed on this board " greek life isnt for everyone or you dont understand greek life til your in " or sumthing to that effect...and that may be the case... But right now at the point where I am in my life...I can honestly say that Im not sure if being Greek is for me. Atleast not right now...maybe later on in life. Sorry for being longwinded...

I didn't come from a family of greeks. Aside from a few distant cousins who are greek, I have no immediate or close extended relatives who are members of Greeks. I was a student-at-large trying to determine if I belong in any sorority and if so which one. To be VERY HONEST I've researched all of the D9 BGLOs. Doing it this way helped me to see what drives each. Reading about the legacies, philanthropies and accomplishments of each org was astounding to me. As I said before I love to learn and anything I can get my hands on I'm gonna digest it. This helped me to determine, after prayer of course, the sorority I wanted to be apart of. The sorority I've chosen(and I hope chooses me) is one of great calibre and very prestgious. I'm not talking down on the other 3 because all of them are wonderful. What made the decision harder for me is that I didn't let myself be driven by stereotypes. I didn't judge by the stepshows, parties, or who ran the yard. I went by the public information provided on each and that's what makes the decision hard SO HARD. Again I had no influences(relatives) to pursue a certain org(or any BGLO) so I had to do it on my own. The sorority I've chosen is magnanimous in stature. I love it, I want it and I'm going to get it(spoken in a bold but HUMBLE way :-D ). It's like being in love with 0% words to describe it but 200% assurance in knowing it's real. I feel that I'd be a great asset with the org of my choice. I seek a career in the org, not just membership. Being a member of XYZ org is to "let your life be as that of a snowflake where it leaves a mark, not a stain" on those affected by it. THAT is what I want to be apart of.

GDI's: What/Who is your motivation to pursue* membership into the organization you are interested in? *Replying discretion is advised When I was in high school I had two very close older male friends of mine that are Distinguished Men of Alpha so they always told me that I needed to be an AKA, so not knowing any different that is what I always thought I wanted to be until I went off to collge. I attended the University of Florida for a year and the greek organizations began to spark my interest as to who represented what values and beliefs. There was this one organization that really held down the campus, and coming into the school through the A.I. M. program in which they were peer counselors, I found my nitch. I have complete respect and adoration for this particular group of ladies. And though I am finishing my degree, the yearning I had to once step, and wear nalia has passed. I just would like to serve my community and become a woman worthy of this organization.

see now if those alphas had that pledging attitude and were cliquey and had a high and mighty attitude this young man wouldn't of been interested in them at all now I'm sure A PHI A does NOT choose everyone but they treat nongreeks with RESPECT which directly reflects on their brotherhood and org in a POSITIVE way laidback you need to understand this
