Majors....

I'm thinking of changing my major from Business Management to Political Science with a possible minor in sociology. Ya'll have helped me to discover a passion :lol: Seriously though, Business was just something I said as I knew I would have to eventually learn how to manage a business once I took over my dad's club, but the more I thought about it, I realized that a business degree does not necessarily equate you with running your own business and politics was what I had been leaning to for a while, especially considering that I knew that I wanted to go to law school. And Hampton's tradition of putting so many African Americans into Law School, it all just seemed to fit. Anyways, for all the upper classmen, how many times did you change your major is you ever have and if so why? and for the freshmen, what is your major and why did you choose it?

My major when I got to Spelman was Dual-Degree Engineering. Originally, I was going for the Computer Science at Spelman and Comp. Engineering degree at Georgia Tech. Then I just changed it to regular Computer Science. Now I'm changin it to Math. It's like no matter what I do I have to do something technical cause all that reading and writing, like for an English or Psychology or Foreign Language major, is just not for me. Plus, I just like math!!!

WELL MY MAJOR IS CURRENTLY BIOLOGY...AND I WANT MY MINOR TO BE ECONOMICS....BUT I MAY CHANGE MY MAJOR TO ECONOMICS...BECAUSE I'LL BE ABLE TO CARRY OUT MY LIFELONG GOALS...

Hey! I bet you're sick of me replying to everything you write/....you must just inspire me. But please listen to me on this one. I majored in undergrad in several things, finally finsihing my BA in radio/TV/Filma nd it is just worthless. I TRIED to major in Math, I TRIED tomajor in Accounting (all things people tole me were good). Now, I want to go to law school, and I seriously **** my own GPA by trying to major in things that are NOT my passion and that I couldn't have given a rats *ss about. I ended up with an overall GPA of 3.15. Way low for law school. But thins incluses a C in Physics II, a D in statistics and a D in Calculus. Hon, I didnt have any BUSINESS even taking those classes! I am just as mathematically stupid as you can be (well, thats an overstatement...but...) Bottom line is this. You egt into law school based on two things. Undergrad GPA LSAT score. All the rest is just window dressing. You need to number one, major in something you like and can excel in... You do NOT need a poly sci degree. No one cares what your degree was in really...it is the GPA, the LSAT, your ability to write...if they look at anything, it is if you took a lot of wiritng classes...sometimes they do consider if you have taken a "hard"major, but at the end of the day, its all about the GPA and LSAT. So, anything you can do to get a good GPA is what you should do. Usually that means majoring in what your passion is...not on what you think is practical neccessarily. That being said, I HIGHLY reccomend you take as many "Logic" classes in your school's philosophy department as you can before you take the LSAT...and you definately need to plan to take the LSAT no later than June right after your Junior year of college. I applied to Law School last year. i did get in. BUT I was unable to sell my house and the tuition was just too high. I am reapplying this year, have rented out my house...and I am SO ready to get the heck out of Texas... If you eed any advise whatsoever on applying to or getting into Law School I am more than happy to help you in any way I can. There are things I wish someone had told me before I started the process. It is long, detailed, and a painin the ****. But hopefullyit will pay off. You take care...and good luck with your decisions you have to make...
