FAMU is no more difficult than any other state college. Having went to FAMU and having friends at FSU, I was able to see for myself whether or not FSU was any "Better". I can conclude that FSU is NOT any better than FAMU. Actually, my boyfriend, who also attended FAMU, was a tutor for FSU students!
College proved to be very different from high school for me. You have to definitely have good study habits and be able to work independently most of the time. But if you have the drive to succeed you will be fine.
Now as far as partying, as mentioned by JNichole, FAMU is party central. I messed my self up BAD my first couple of years! All those fine men, the set, clubs, frat parties and did I mention FINE MEN
- will have you flunked out and quickly on the hottest thing flying back home! So just keep your mind mainly on those books and don't forget the reason you are at college in the first place - to get an EDUCATION!
Good luck!
