Pam Grier
Pam Grier was born on May 26, 1949 in Winston-Salem, NC to Gwendolyn and Clarence Grier. Her father worked as a mechanic and Technical Sergeant in the United States Air Force which forced her family to move frequently during her childhood, to various places such as England and eventually settling in Denver, Colorado in her high school years. While there, Ms Grier appeared in stage productions and participated in beauty contests to raise money for college tuition at Metropolitan State College. She moved to Los Angeles in 1967, getting hired as a receptionist at American International Pictures. After being discovered by one of the directors at AIP, she played parts in a few movies before her big break. Six years after arriving in LA, Ms Grier starred in, Coffy, in 1973. With this role, she became the first African-American female to headline a film. Ms Grier went on to star in other blaxploitation films, dramas and tv shows over the years. In 1988, Ms Grier was diagnosed with cancer and was given 18 months to live! :o More than 18 months later, she can be found starring in Law & Order: SVU with a recurring role or playing Kit Porter on Showtime network's drama series, The L Word. She is slated to star in two upcoming films, The Invited & Identity.

Pam is a legendary beauty. I remember her as Foxy Brown.
