I don't know if you got it from the title but I have a little problem... I'm a high school junior and I've been doing some college searching. As you can see from my sig I've been narrowing them down from 32... to 9. Well I want to narrow it down to at least 3 but at the most 5. EDIT: I plan on majoring in Pre-Med or Biology!! The Universities: Howard University Jackson State University Tuskegee University Winston-Salem University Hampton University Grambling University Morgan State University Albany State University Cheyney University of Pennsylvania I want your opinions, facts, thoughts, any and everything you like/dislike about the colleges above!! I want to make a good decision. Below are some key things I would like to know about the colleges (all info is good though): Is it located in a small city? Is it close to a lot of places (mall, diners, restaurants, etc.)? How are the professors? Dorm Life? Scholarships? ROTC (Army)? Clubs (School Clubs not Night Clubs)? Everyday Campus Life? Like I said the any info is good!! Thumbup1

I think Howard would be good for pre-med,especially since they have a hospital. It has an ok area for DC and it is convient location with shops around.

yea I live in the DC area and I just went driving around Howard when I was visiting someone at George Washington Hospital Center.

Jackson State is a party school and a lot of people who start out as freshmans usually drop out or transfer. Yet, Jackson State has graduated a lot of professional people. The cost of living in Jackson is expensive, and I would suggest you to stay on campus. Wherever you decide to go, just keep a high GPA and score high on the MCAT. If you are looking towards going to medical school, I would also suggest Tougaloo College. It is also a HBCU in MS. They have a lot of exchange programs for pre-med students. A lot of people who attend Tougaloo usually get accepted into medical school around their sophomore year. They know way ahead of time where they will be attending medical school before they graduate. Tougaloo is mainly geared toward pre-med students and they work hard to ensure that most students are accepted into medical school. It is a smaller school and not as much as a party school as Jackson State. It has more of a family like atmosphere, yet they are big on the Greek scene and they are somewhat cliquish out there. Anyway, do some research on Jackson State and Tougaloo. Anymore questions, just PM me.

Thanks for heads up I will definitely look into Tougaloo Collge. I had never heard of it until you mentioned it. Just out of curiosity are or were you Pre-Med?

Not a student at hampton u but I live in Hampton and it is a small city but the surrounding cities like newport news,norfolk, va beach,chesapeake, portsmouth, and suffolk are conveniently close by. The mall in hampton is being redone into a towne center or somethn its scheduled to be done in 09 but you have many to choose from when you go across the water. Plenty of restaurants, a few beaches.. I wouldn't reccommend buckroe which is the closest beach, most people go to Va beach. The students I know say the campus life is pretty dull but then again I only know a few that actually live on campus. For your major I would def suggest Howard though.. hope my info was somewhat helpful Smile

sometimes that might be what it will come down to........like when i started my college search i based it on colleges that had nursing and creative writing majors. then i started leaning more toward nursing so creative writing became less important. a lot of colleges that were on my original list were in cali, and in florida. i ended up not keeping any cali schools because i know nothing but the eats coast and cant see myself and cali. and then other things like school size, demographics, large/small town helped me narrow down my choices. at first i felt i shouldnt limit myself either but these factors actually help you to find colleges where youll most likely end up satisfied. however, the one factor that i refuse to take into consideration when looking at a college is cost. thats one factor i feel should never limit you with all the available schollys and free money there is out there.
