HBCU vs Standard University
So I'm a junior in high school and will be applying to colleges next year. I wanted to know, whats the difference in education between HBCUs and regular colleges, with mainly white people? Why did you choose your HBCU? What HBCU would you recommend to a nursing major? How much financial aid do you thnk I could get (GPA: 3.75 ... SAT: 1650 ... ACT: 29)?
Thanks for any replies (:
Wow, we created our site just for you! We will list a few quotes and please feel free to contact our interviewees for any questions you may have ! Quotes below:
"How did you decide to become a student at Prairie View A&M University?
Originally, I started my college career at a PWI. At first I loved it! But after the hype of freshman year went away, I realized that I was just a number to the university and my professors truly didn’t care anything about me excelling academically even though that was what I was paying them to do. So my sophomore year I transferred to PVAMU. I got to know ALL of the professors of my major and the Dean of my college very well and they do everything in their power to make sure I graduate a leader in my field of study." A: I chose Biology as a major because I really like the life sciences and as a major, biology, crosses over into many different fields of science, allowing me to explore many options.
What professors at Langston University are leaving or have left the most impression upon you as a student and/or person? What did they do that continues to mean so much to you to this day?
A: Dr. Drain (see below), Acting Chair of the Biology Department, and Dr. Coleman, Chair of the Chemistry Department, have had the greatest impressions on me thus far. Dr. Drain is very encouraging and challenged me to reach my full potential while I was taking her class and Dr. Coleman has opened many doors for me and continues to do so as he constantly offers a helping hand in my endeavors. Another professor that has done a lot for me is Dr. Matand. I have worked with him for the past year in the Biotechnology Lab and he has been nothing but kind and helpful as he too always offers a helping hand."
