Legacy or Not

Mikeyhotj Nashville, TN
My father crossed a GLO and I was looking into pledging the same thing. I really want to get in on my own Merit rather then using his name to "coast in" would it be more wise to go in as a legacy or to just not mention it. How would they know anyways? And If I decided I want to pledge another organization, would that be looked down on for not following my father's path?

That was messed up how all of that stuff at TSU went down with the Omegas. Unfortunate. :cry:

I love the Ques and errythang. They just got back on the yard here at A&T two years ago. They handle things just a little differently then the other greeks sometimes.

You live your own life and make your own decisions about Greek life. But I ain't gonna lie, I would be HIGHLY disapproving and disappointed in my son pledging another frat. My brother and cousins, they can do what they want; but I would hope my son would have enough respect for the influences on me raising him to wish to follow in my footprints in that respect.

^^ok... I feel what ur saying. My question to u though, why would it be such a problem for ur son to be his own man. Say for instance ur a Alpha.... and u came in something like Fall 77. Cool... now it's SPR 05 and maybe AphiA isn't for him. Maybe he wants to be a Que. So ur gonna be disappointed in him? Because he used his OWN mind and chose something else?

Man I respect you for not wanting to coast in. I can say them same for too many other legacies that i know personally. Also I encourage to do what is right for you. Not ya pops or other folk in your family. Things have changed over time and regardless of what organization your in they all should have the same goal which is service (particulary to the african american community). Do you man, you'll be most effective in a organization that suits you.

My reasons for wanting my son to become an Alpha would be the same for wanting my son to go to an HBCU. Is my son sending the message that how I raised him and the lifestyle I've set up weren't good enough for him? Where is the respect for legacy, tradition, and history? Why wouldn't he want to share that common bond with me? That's what would be hurtful and disappointing. I'm not going to disown them or anything, though. But the son that does pledge Alpha will probably get a new car.

^^ Exactly, I mean it's all about you and where you're heart is at...I could have went legacy like my mother and majority of the females in my family and pledged AKA but I would have only done that to please them. I mean don't get me wrong, my mother was not happy at all when I came in the crib sayin' OOO-OOOPPP( she actually thought I was joking)....but she did get over it because i'm still her child with or w/o my naila on.
