Itta Bena , MS – Mississippi Valley State University first baseman Nathan Purvis received a great reward for his outstanding play for the 2004 baseball season. The 6-4, 210-pound Florence, MS native signed a free-agent contract with the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday, 15 2004. He will report to the Gulf Coast Rookie League in Ft. Myers, Florida on Thursday, June 17th.
Purvis helped lead the Delta Devils to a school’s best 32 wins this season and second consecutive runner-up in the Southwestern Athletic Conference in the 2004 season. A first team All-SWAC selection, Purvis batted .378 with a team-best 14 doubles, four home runs and a team-high 30 runs batted in.
well last year the SWAC had the number one baseball player in the nation and it seems like we just keep sending folks to the next level..
