Dreadlocs...question for yall

Na, you wont have to cut them.Usually people with long hair use a technique called backcombing.But also you could get a dred perm (thats if youre willing to spit out alot of cash).The results are great and it works instantly.

Well from what I understand locs aren't hard to take care of. I hear it's pretty low maintenance. But I've never had them. As far as getting a Dred Perm ( a perm that chemically damages your hair in order for it to hold knots better i.e. any perm haha!), please don't do that to yourself. If you have a perm you are gonna have to grow it out. It's as simple as that. There is a method called sisterlocs. This allows you to start locs with permed hair. In my opinion,If you aren't ready to let go of your long hair or begin a process in which you have to start over with you natural hair then you aren't ready to loc. Yea, the dred perm can be harsh but my friend has one and his hair is fine,at least for now.Personally, I think she should go to someone who specializes in twist,dreds,braids etc. because some hairstylist just dont know how to do them.I also heard that some people start their dreds from single braids.

yeah cosign...growing TRUE dreads aint about following the latest trend but its about fully embracing and loving the hair you were born with...ive had friends with dreads, its not really high maintenance at all, ya get your locs retwisted every month or two, and wash and condition it regularly and thats it, the only thing hard that is the part where your dreads are forming cause it wont be perfectly shaped dreads for a while and wont automatically hang down, and will just stick straight for a good while WITH natural hair and ya may get the "fuzzies"...just stray hairs and all..honestly i think ya should get sisterlocs to see how it feels like aj suggested, or just get long loose twists used with a lil beeswax like some white stars do to also give a good feel or just get a dread weave...cause it seems like youre not ready for real
