??To pledge or not to Pledge??

Ok, I got a friend. We'll call this friend ****....close, yea, Pimpclose. Anyhow, Pimpclose is interested in becoming apart of a particular organization, but he's worried about the process interfering with his school and grades. the reason that Pimpclose is so concerned about not letting his grades drop is because Pimpclose wants to go to Graduate school after he graduates, and he knows that this upcoming year is the ONLY year that he has to get his gpa up as high as possible. Pimpclose understands that becoming part of a certain organization isn't as simple as writing your name down on a sheet of paper or just putting on a shirt. It takes time and effort, plus Pimpclose is going to have a job as well so he'll have 3 responsibilites. Now, in ya'll personal experiances. Is it an unreasonable fear that Pimpclose's grades can't survive him going thru the process as well as working and school? P.S. Ya'll can respond here, I'll let Pimpclose know what ya'll think.

he's got to be pretty strong to juggle all three...he won't get enough sleep and he'll constantly be busy. i dn't knw if its such a good idea for ur "friend" but it depends on how hard a worker he is and how he deals with being under a lot of pressure. :wink:

I would say to 'pimpclose' that he should really really sit down and evaluate his situation because pledgin isn't a joke...Imagine havin like 3hrs of sleep each night AND trying to keep your grades up AND goin to work AND studying?? Kinda hard...has pimpclose thought about pledgin in grad school? If undergrad is sumthin he really wants to do he better be prepared to take on all these responsibilities knowing good and well he made the decision for himself.

I'm not too sure about this "pledging" your "friend" speaks of, but to be intiated into an organization takes work and dedication, but should not interfere with grades (which is the highest priority). If your "friend" really wants to get intiated into the undergrad chapter, they should try seeing about fall intiation, that way, your "friend" can utilize their spring semester to keep the gpa on track. If your "friend's" school is like mine, and only allows for spring intiation, that will be a decision your "friend" will have to make on their own. If your "friend" is really good at time management and multi-tasking, then they should go for it....that shows more heart and dedication. But, if all else fails....just flip a coin (that's what I do Oops

)

Well tell your "friend" that if he wants it bad enough then he will be willing to work for it :wink: I can only speak for myself when I say it can be done; you, um I mean, your "friend" just has to be that serious about it! Believe me, there were times where I wanted to give up and I shed plenty of tears but I wanted it just that bad. Anything worth having is worth working hard for and even thinking back on difficult times, I'd do it all over again 1,000 times in a heartbeat if I had to :wink: If you *damn* your "friend" wants it bad enough he will go for it and continue to do what he has to do :wink: :arrow:

Tell your friend it's not impossible, but it will be VERY difficult. It's all in your mind whether or not you can handle the stress. HOWEVER, if I were him, I'd drop my job. Unless you needed it to pay for school (and I'm not talking about sneakers and clothes). You're going to need to work this summer to save some money for the fees. For some people their grades actually go up in the pledge period because you don't have time to be distracted. So that's the other side of the coin.
