Okay, earlier today me and my friend were talking about joining greek organizations and how we felt about them. I personally think that they are great to join b/c they do a lot of good things for the community and get you involved in some positive things. And they all teach about sisterhood or brotherhood. Plus, they seem to be a lot of fun too. But, my friend says she doesn't view them as a sisterhood or brotherhood thing. To her it's more like "buying your friends". And she wouldn't be part of any organization that she had to be bullied around to get in. She is the first person whom I've ever known to view greek organizations that way. Is there anyone on here that views them that same way?
Well I know people who feel like your friend does. My mom isnt to excited about me wanting to pledge a sorority my 2nd year because she thinks that sororities think they are better than people. There may be some that are like that, but definitely not all of them. I still plan on pledging because you cant hate on something you dont really know about.

Yeah I know people who say that they wouldn't join one because of the bullying or hazing. But nobody had ever brought up the aspect of "buying your friends" to me before. But in a way I think it's good that they are really **** pledges with the bullying. Because if they were'nt any and everybody would be tryin' to join. And some of those people wouldn't take the organization seriously they would just be in it for the partying.

yeah i kinda understand the aspect of buying friends cause thats how i feel about it also...i also dont want to pledge because it just seems like there is no point to it..it just seems kinda superficial almost to be degraded and then come into a group all "lovey dovey"...and i dont see the point in them expecting me to put my whole trust into an organization after a few weeks when i dont trust people after 1-2 years lol...i mean i just dont get the concept of stopping everything and showing complete love for a group when the time calls for it..but i mean for some people greek orgs are good for them..just not meant for me..not downing them.
