Thank GOD! I just recieved text messages from my roomie and good friend this morning that they were rescued and sent to Grambling an Southern. I'm sure once they get cell batteries charged up they have got a story to tell! I still haven't heard from my bf, but I'm keeping my hopes up. That just so made my day to hear from them!

Ok so I'm feeling a bit better today... still feeling a bit strange but getting used to calling all of the schools around here and buying some clothes so I don't have to walk around the house in pj's anymore. i guess i will speak about that bolded stuff.... i am not sure but mayeb you all can remember with me.... back when CLINTON was in office, there WERE preconcieved notions and predictions that the New Orleans area walls/levies (sp?) surrounding the city were indeed too weak in the event that something catastrophic such as KATRINA were to hit the area. with that known, CLINTON decided to give the city adequate funding to hopefully rebuild or strengthen those walls. now i may have left out some things, but that's the general action taken from my recollection. now fast forward to when DUBYA BUSH came into office...sure we were hit with supposed ****attacks yadda ya, that took up most ofhis actions as president the first couple YEARS in office. now in that same time, remember when BUSH was doing a whole GOOGOB of BUDGET CUTS? yea, everything from medicare/caid, education, yadda ya, WELP sure enough, he also CUT the budget down to damn near ZILCH for what would've have aided in the strengthening or "weather-proofing" the New Orleans Levies.... OUTCOME: what we knew back when Clinton was in office was supposed to help that city...there was a plan of action to prevent chaos or at least lessen the catastrophe that could have and now HAS happened. BUSH, however has been so worried these past years with things that are not in the least bit DIRECTLY relevant to the well being of our country.... i could elaborate further, but I'm tired of typing... THAT IS ALL....

I was wondering what they did for the students at XU. It doesn't surprise me that they said it was voluntary. I remember getting 2 pieces of bread and a piece of meat during a threat of a **** when I was there. And I did experience the flooding there for a good 12 hours in which I could not walk to the dorm and it ain't nothing nice. Had to catch a ride with some girl in her utitility vehicle to the nearest house my roomate and I knew of. I'm glad for once, Bush quite defending the administration about how they handled things. I'm just sorry it took 4 days for him figure it out. God bless their souls of the victims.

It's so good to hear that some of u from Xavier, Dillard, and other N.O schools are alive & doing well. That is truly a blessing. A few minutes ago i just got a call from a cousin of mine who attends Xavier, and i was so relieved to hear she is doing alright. According to her, school is shut down indefinately. So in the meantime, students are left to just sit and wait, or to transfer to another school. Howard and other DC schools are currently taking transfers from that region. They called my cousin and told her all she has to do is fill out a application and they will try to accomodate her as soon as possible. Only catch is, HU isn't really able to give out financial aid or housing becuz everything is pretty much gone. Plus i feel bad, becuz alot of those students had already paid for their tuition for the semester or had some type of scholarship at their previous school. Nevertheless, it's just good to see that other HBCUs (as well as PWIs) are stepping in and trying to help in whatever way they can. The rally/memorial service that we had today on the yard really made it hit home to some people how serious this situation is. Alot of students here have no home to return to or are missing loved ones. I would like to encourage everyone to not just be a spectator. Find a local community service organization (or start one if u have to) and donate clothes, money, sanitary supplies, or whatever u can to help with relief. Continue to pray for those who are suffering. It's real out there ya'll

I'm currently a Xavier student and Xavier just posted that school will reopen Jan 4th (supposedly). I am also a student who is transfering to Howard on Tuseday. I'm actually lucky because i applied there last year when i was looking for a college to attend. Therefore i dont have to apply again and i can just enroll. The issue with money, i believe depends on the student, i'm a lucky one because my brother goes to Howard and has been talking to them since Monday, so i pay nothing up front. The money that i paid to Xavier will roll over and go to Howard.
