i mean like how ya'll know what to write as an essay is there like a question they ask or do you just write about yourself
It depends...
Some schools just ask for a personal statement and others give you a topic or topics to choose from.

I can relate there are so many things you could write about when they don't give you a topic...I think i'll just recycle essays lol
