Thinkin About Transferin To FAMU.....Can You Tell Me About Your Campus?!?!

smh... I'll start by saying that there is always going to be negative talk about FAMU because the people that attend don't know what they have, and the people that don't attend know what they're missing out on, therefore they slander out of envy. But it's lonely on top. Thank you to those that are considering coming to FAMU. It is the largest black campus in America. All of the fraternities and sororities are represented on campus including the Alpha's, Omega's, Delta's, Sigma's, Zeta's, Sinfonians, etc. with the exception of Kappa Alpha Psi who was suspended for hazing until 2013. There is alot to do at FAMU. All of the frats throw parties practically non-stop all year from the Alpha's Gorilla Thrilla's, to the Omega's **** Spills, to the Sigma's Pajama Parties, etc. As far as getting involved, you have all the on-campus organizations: Marching 100, Concert Choir, Gospel Choir, Symphony band, Orchestra band, Student Government Association, Strikers, Mahogony, FAMU Elite (dance troupes), Faces, Images, (modeling troupes) etc. There is a few different choices to live on campus. Paddyfoote is basically the worst place to live because of the small rooms. Gibbs is an all male dorm building, somewhat better than Paddyfoote because of the stucture of the rooms. Females have Diamond, McGuinn, Truth, and Copper Halls. I couldn't tell you too much about them cause I'm not a girl lol. Then you have the on-campus apartments Palmetto North, Palmetto South, and Phase 3. They all have their advatages. P. North is a series of spaced out complex buildings and in each apartment is 2 bedrooms shared with 2 people each, 1 full bathroom, kitchen, dining room, living room, and balcony. P. South is basically the same way except there are three seperate buildings, no balconies and some rooms are available for single living. Phase 3 is the same as P. South except there are two buildings of apartments with the newest furniture on campus. The apartment rooms are all bigger and comfortable than any of the male or female dorms. There are no co-ed dorms but there is a building in P. North for students with children/married. The thing about Paddyfoote and Gibbs is that you have to watch yourself and your things. There are alot of ignorant people at FAMU (though not the majority) that pride themselves on robbing students caught off guard. Recently, alot of X-box 360's and laptops have been stolen because people don't lock behind themselves. And in all three apartment complexes that is somewhat the problem but the main issue is personal safety at night. People have been robbed, shot, and **** in iscolated incidents late at night. Just make sure you haveyour head on straight and you'll be fine. I'm from Chicago and I haven't had to worry about none of the above because I watch my surroundings, I lock up my stuff and lock my room when I leave, I have a lot of friends and we don't mind getting our hands dirty if you know what I mean, and most importantly, I'm not getting myself into thingsI don't need to be doing. Trouble begets touble, and that's at any University. FAMU has a music program that is out of this world i.e. the band and both choirs. The Business college is huge, point blank. Nursing is off the chain, ask about them. The Law school is doing well and the same goes for History majors, Psychology, Math, etc. What I'm trying to say is, you may hear about FAMU going through some stuff with City and State legislature, but believe me, the education is sitting pretty. I can't believe I just typed all that lol

Thank's Joker for giving me so more information of FAMU. I am having a hard time deciding which school I should transfer to. I got accepted to Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, and I am waiting for my acceptence letter to FAMU. I always wanted to attend FAMU, but at the same time im nervous about going there because I won't know anyone and being a transfer student is kind of hard because everyone already has their group of friends already. I see you from the Chi as well, is there a lot of people from Chicago down there?

Yeah there is a huge amount of Chicago people at FAMU. Like, literally Chicago it is ALOT of us down here. Heck, the student body president this past year is an Alpha from Chicago.There is actually a Chicago club, as well as other clubs for example California Club, Texas club, etc. I myself haven't gotten a chance to check out the Chicago club because of other things I've been doing on campus but it does exsist. The thing about getting to know people is this... when you come from outside of Florida, unless you come with people from your hometown, the key to networking and getting new friends is getting involved on campus. Just about every organization on campus has a kind of "process" where you eventually gain a circle of friends that you can depend on and hang around. Whether it be a fraternity/sorority, dance troupe, modeling troupe, choir/band, or some kind of academic club, that's what you gotta do.

i havent been on the boards in awhile, but it is nice to know that someone is still holding down the board for prospective students.

I'm lookin 4ward 2 being at FAMU in the Fall of '08, and I'm glad that FAMU is making the steps that it is to weed out the staff and administrative members who are ruining the school's financial and public status, but there is still work to be done, and I feel that it WILL be done. I am very hopeful about FAMU & the Rattlerz have my support, no matter what people from PWIs OR other HBCUs have 2 say about FAMU. The media had their nasty, defamatory way with FAMU while hiding all of the accredidation problems at the big Florida schools, including FSU, UF (who got a warning in late 2007 from SACS & has repeated but little-known racism issues within the student body & the law teachers), and USF...uh-huh. SO...I hope that I can contribute to the improvement and well-being of FAMU when I get there!!!!
