*rubs his eyes some, reading* *nods* The role of the Black Woman is the same as the role of any living and breathing Human living on this earth. To help better our way of living by spreading Truth, Knowledge and Wisdom, Procreate and...just live. Im not sure that there is a set role for anyone in society (especially here in America where we all have a chance to go Hard or go Home) and Women can make just as big (or bigger) of an impact as men. That holds no bound to race either. As far as at home, I believe that women and men should take the same amount of responsibility in cooking, cleaning and pleasure. I believe in dual income houses where both parents work, come home tired and do whatever the hell they want. Its the privelege of working, and if she (or he, in sometimes rare cases) doesnt work then they will have to pull their weight by keeping the house clean. They dont always have to clean, but damn DO SOMETHIN. (like i said, these rules know no bounds)

I've been thinking of a new perspective on this... I believe that in the rush to promote equality (which is always a good thing), we have unwittingly downplayed the significance of the home to our society. The most important job in humanity is the raising and upbringing of children, as it determines the capabilities that they will have in life - even over so-called professional endeavors. In the home, a child is taught the skills and moral characteristics that will allow them to be self-independent. The skills which allow someone to mature into a successful businessman, engineer, or professor must first be aquired from a parent or custodian at home. It is also a place not only of learning, but also healing, as an energetic husband or wife returning from the office to chaos would not be energetic and successful for very long. Think of it like a professional race team - the driver gets the recognition, but anyone who knows the sport can tell you that every race is won or lost in pit row. The driver is simply the figurehead of the team. So this can be misleading. It is everyone's responsibility to exercise good stewardship over their belongings, men and women alike. A man of character who sees his house in need of cleaning will clean it; regardless of who society implies should be doing it - simply because his home is a reflection of him, and he is not comfortable seeing it in disorder. A career is not a justification for neglecting one's responsibilities, man or woman alike. So yes, women should be responsible for their home - just not confined to it. 8) Sorry for rambling. Holla!

Please explain... I'd like to hear your perspective. Maybe I didn't phrase mine as clearly as possible.

You were on point until I got to the last little statement and then I was thrown off...

I agree with her. That made it seem, like women are the ONLY ones who can be the homemaker whether you came out and stated it or not. You left no room for the possibility the the male being the main one taking care of house and home.

I said that women should be responsible for their home, and men should also. If a man or a woman were to focus solely on career without making provisions for their home and family, it would be irresponsible. Likewise if one should expect his or her partner to be confined exclusively to the home or exclusively to the office, it would be also irresponsible. For example, it is hypocritical for a man to be a diligent worker for someone else while his own personal business is in disorder, or improving his employer's well-being without providing for his own family. However, nobody should have their opportunities confined to domestic work. I am just saying balance is key. So for clarification, women should be responsible for their home, as should men. But nobody should be confined to it. Holla!
