Fellas Why do you send text messages?

I just wanted to know why do guys send text messages, instead of picking up and calling a woman? I've noticed that in this new generation of dating, that guys are doing a lot of texting. Why not just pick up the phone and call? I'm just wondering why even bother about asking for my number if you are going to text. I feel that you should just ask for my email address if you are going to write. Anyway, fella's give me your thoughts on this and the reason why you do this.

Interesting that you said that, because I do that all the time. When a guy texts me, I will pick up the phone and call because I don't want to go through all the hassle of writing for 2 minutes, when I can say what I need to say in 30 seconds.

Rite but what if the only thing he had to say is... what he texted...lol. Nah really he might jus want to know whas gud. And if your desire to say more is inevitable you could txt an say, "Ima hit u up"... I mean thats jus me.

This texting stuff has really gotten out of hand. This one guy I dated, he would hold me on the phone for 3 hours and then when he got off the phone, he would then text me. I'm like, "couldn't you have just said that while we were on the phone for 3 hours and left it at that!!!" Also, he would wake me up early in the morning texting me. I just think this texting stuff has become rude. There should be something written on cell phone etiquette. Folks have gotten ridiculous with these cell phones. It has gotten to the point that people are even texting at the club. I don't frequent the clubs often, but I happened to go to a party someone invited me to, and I noticed that guys were standing in the corner, not dancing but texting. I was like, "if they are going to text their girlfriend all night, they should have just stayed there with her and not go out." People are just becoming too impersonal these days. With all of this technology, people don't even pick up the phone and call anymore. I guess they feel a text is sufficient.

Very interesting topic! There is definitely a time, when calling is a better option. I think there should be something written on email etiquette with respect to work. Why do people send email in the same office area? It’s much easier to walk 10 steps and say it in a few seconds.

Well, most of the time people just forward jokes all day. LOL Especially, if it is a office job. I know that's all I used to do all day, was read jokes in my email and forward them. Yeah, I understand what your talking about. Especially, if their office is right next door they could easily call on the phone or just peek their head out the door.

**** i prefer texts sometimes cuz i just really like to write. this guy im talkin to got unlimited just to keep up with me. we've spoken on the phone too but i think textin takes the sting off. im not a big phone person. either text me or we meet in person. telephones make for awkward **** silence and u get to see who a person really is via how they write like for real. cuz **** slips out unknowingly

I do agree with you about meeting in person because that is even more personable than the telephone. Even with meeting in person, you could have the awkward silence. It's interesting that you said, "you get to see who a person really is via how they write." I would think that a person can hide who they are through writing. When you are with an individual in person, you can see their body language. Yeah, a guy can easily tell you he loves you through a text, but if you are with him in person, you can look into his eyes or read his body language to see if he's telling the truth. Guys give suttle ways of letting you know, through body language, that he's into you. I have a friend that dated this guy, that was out of town, for a whole year and never dated him in person. She was always talking about how she loved him, and never dated him in person. I told her that she had built a fantasy through all of this texting and only communicating with him over the phone. She was never able to see his body language, to actually see if he was telling the truth with any of his words. Also, if she was with him in person, she might not have liked the "real" him. People can put up a persona real quick if you aren't around them. So I feel people need to be very careful with building relationships through texting or just the phone period. I think people just need to meet up and talk face to face.

I prefer conversing with a lady face-to-face or via phone. It’s more interactive and you can engage in more meaningful dialogue. However, I do think there is a time to text and/or send an email. It’s better to text, if you need a specific answer and quickly. I don’t think texting is the best communication method for an extended period. As far as sending an email, I think it’s an occasional good idea to express your feelings through writing. People appreciate an individual that takes the time to write. It takes time/effort to formulate your thoughts and send an email. The key is finding the balance for texting, calling, and/or sending email. That is way it’s important to learn people. You have to know what makes them tick and avoid irritating them. Also, it’s equally important to stay in touch and establish a friendship.

I do agree with you that there has to be a balance. It's okay to text occasionally, but it shouldn't be your only form of communication. Also, I do agree that people should find that balance because you don't want to irritate people if you do too much of either one: texting or calling. I do feel that writing is romantic when a guy writes a hand written letter. Now.. sending a email fits in the same category of texting (to me), but if he takes the time to write a hand written letter he gets extra points with me! I think people should just skip all of this technology in dating and go back to the old fashion way of dating or courting. I think married men, should also surprise their wives with a hand written letter once and a while! I'm sure he will get extra points for that one! LOL
