If you are involved in your church and married with children, you wouldn't have time to be involved in a Greek graduate chapter.
Anyway, to each its own. You have to make that decision for yourself, but do listen to your mom because she does have wisdom in that aspect. She doesn't want you to go through the drama and mess she went through pledging undergrad. All that stuff can be a distraction, so you better be very careful of it. Your main focus is to get an education, so you can get a good job and to be able to support yourself. Don't let anything get you off track from your goals whether it is men or pledging. A lot of young girls get distracted when they get to college, because of those two things: Greek stuff or men. Don't let it distract you, and this advice is coming from someone who has been there. I have become wise now, and I'm not letting anyone or anything distract me from what my main purpose is. So I advice you to set goals before you get to college and stick to them!
ok thanks for the advice...but one thing i'm not religious in any sense of the word. but yeah my mom told me why she doesn't want me to pledge, and despite that her reasons are good, i believe i'm strong and can not let the same things that distracted her distract me as well. the president of alpha phi alpha distracted her. she was active for over two years, and yeah i have goals set. I want to be an attorney, and political science major. I promise I'm not going to let guys distract me. I've already gone through the guy distraction phase, and am not planning on going through that again.
Still i suggest you keep your actions and mouth in check... thats a no no on black campuses... try to befriend other prospects... you can spot them because they will be at all the events like you. They can share knowledge with you etc. I wish you luck, and whether you have rhythem or not, If you put forth extra work... you wont look crazy during step shows.
