Prom Dress Too Explicit To Be Allowed In

CNN recently posted this video online about a young girl from Houston, Texas who wasn’t allowed into her prom because of the dress she wore. Comments on the video ranged from blaming the parents for lack of control, applaud for the school’s reprimand on the attire, and chastising the girl’s attire. Is this an outcry for school’s nationwide to set a standard code for attire worn during school hours and at events? Will this lead to a mandatory requirement for school uniforms? What are your views? Should students be able to wear what they want? Here is the link to the video: http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2008/05/12/edwards.skimpy.prom.dress.khou?iref=mpvideosview

I think its inappropriate for the prom. I think she should have worn something less revealing. A prom is supposed to be an elegant and classy event. Therefore, your attire should reflect elegance.

The kids of this generation dont really go for the elegant look anymore. Its all about showing as much skin as possible, which I think make horrible prom pictures.

Her dress reflects her mindset....simple She probably doesn't know any better & assumes that just b/c her mom thought it was "cute" she could go into public with that mess on.

Hmm. Honestly...we had a few dresses like that at our prom last year. Granted, our school's dress code was super lax, (classroom and out of class) but I don't think it was that serious. It's her senior prom. What, all of 10 more days and she will have graduated? If that were my decision to make, I probably would have just let her in and let her enjoy her last bit of senior year. They made the comment that her friends tried to make her dress more appropriate by pinning it up, and they still would not allow her in because of her undergarments, but realisticallly, a lot of females go braless in formal wear because its so hard to hide the straps. The argument seemed to be focused more around "we not going to let you in because we say so" then having reason as to why her dress was inappropriate.
obviously she didn't care about enjoyin her last few days of high school .. she deliberately broke the dress code rules! d0h!? if she cared enough, she would have stopped to think ' hey..this says not to show more than one inch of the middriff .. hmmmm my dress shows my entire midriff!? .. probably shouldn't wear it knowing I could get in trouble for it ' .. but no, she didn't. and she had to pay the consequences.. if she didn't get in trouble for it. what would have been the purpose for setting rules in the first place?
