Being Interracial in America...Is it a Crime to Love someone Else?

MSNBC covered a story that invited viewers into the world of multi-racial marriages in America and their encounter with racism. It’s been 41 years since the 1967 Loving vs. Virginia case that opened the window of opportunity for interracial marriages. How is it so hard for someone to accept another because that person is different from their ethnic background? The ignorance and stubbornness of an individual can consume their mind from daring to become open-minded. One might say “I have no problem with other races…I have friends who are Black, White, Asian, Hispanic, and other ethnicities”, but yet they still have preconceived thoughts of stereotypes instead of letting it go. How can someone say “I Love You”, and can still hate someone based on RACE; Love and Hate can’t live together because it is a constant fight. One side has to win. Can one person truly watch the news and not think that all black men are criminals because there is a consecutive “coverage” of crimes committed by them; or categorize some Caucasians as white trash because they act a certain way or come from different economical backgrounds. Did anyone know that the phrase “white trash” is in the dictionary (look it up on www.dictionary.com) just like “******”, ”****”, and “****” can be found as well. This can show how deeply embedded racism is in American society because it is even in a reference book of higher learning; but then there is the First Amendment….Freedom of the Press. Here is a Cherokee saying: An elderly Cherokee Native American was teaching his grandchildren about life… He said to them, “A fight is going on inside me, it is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One wolf is evil — he is fear, anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, competition, superiority, and ego. The other is good—he is joy, peace, love, hope, sharing, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, friendship, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith. This same fight is going on inside you, and inside every other person, too.” They thought about it for a minute and then one child asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?” The old Cherokee simply replied: “The one you feed”. I don't have a problem with interracial dating. I've dated outside of my race a few times. The only thing that I didn't understand was some of the looks that the brothers would give me when we were out together. I didn't understand it because some of the brothers weren't interested in me anyway and wouldn't have approached me if I was by myself, so why the crazy looks. I guess that is something I will never understand..lol. If you really love someone, the color of their skin shouldn't matter.
