At this point you don’t know why she is being silent. Maybe she does want you to go to college, but she is trying to figure out how to pay for it. Maybe she does not want you to leave home. Therefore, I recommend speaking with your mother ASAP. This will provide you an opportunity to find out what she is thinking. Good Luck!

I second Tiger's comment. It's possible that she just can't afford to send you to college and/or doesn't know about scholarships and how to get funding or doesn't know much about college stuff. My parents never knew about college stuff and neither did I, so I had to figure things out on my own. I always wanted to go to Tuskegee (or University of Florida) but I never got a chance to. It was a dream that wasn't gonna come true, to me. If you want to go to FAMU then I say go. Do what you gotta do. Don't be one that blames their parents for how they turned out to be. Think about number 1.

It could be a mixed bag of possibilities of why she's silent and everyone here has pretty much covered them all, BUT the only way for you to truly know the reason why, is to talk to her. Yeah it may be hard and uncomfortable but if you REALLY want to go to school/FAMU it's something you have to do. If she doesn't know about colleges, impress her by sharing with her all that YOU know. If it's the financial strain, inform her of all of the financial aid options and how you plan to obtain some of them. If she wants you close to home, go local for a year or 2 and then transfer. The scenarios are endless but like I said, you have to talk it out. Be sure of yourself when you do it. There's nothing worse than being unprepared when fighting for something you want, it shows you didn't really want it after all. Best wishes!
