Why do Sigmas and SGRhos carry canes?

This doesn't have to be an outrageously long thread...I just always wondered. Yes, I am a Kappa, and we could beef about it all day back and forth, but I'd really like to know if there was specific reason...

Well I read a lengthy article about the history of Kappas carrying canes on a greek website...um I think it was simplygreek.com. It was info that you would read in a history book like that Divine Nine book...so I'm sure the Sigma wouldn't be dumb enough to give up secretive info...but some general history about the cane wouldn't hurt...I guess. My point is usually greeks know certain things about other greeks traditions...not ritual or secretive stuff...but general information. And another point I'm trying to make is...why ask us...just get it straight from the source...or pick up a book.

I agree.... this question is like asking the omegas why they wear their gold boots... 8)
I saw that info about the canes on the sigmas and the kappas on the web as well, it sounded very generic and regergitated.. :? .
