This past Monday, Dr. Condoleezza Rice was a guest speaker at my school. At first I wasn’t going to go, just based on the fact that I was thinking it was a political move on the behalf of Bush. However I changed my mind, because how many times in life will I have the opportunity to meet someone with that much power? Dr. Rice spoke at the invite only Fall Convocation on the importance of education and how choosing a major that’s dear to your heart, is very important. Not once did she bring up Bush, which really surprised me. Dr. Rice went on to talk about her history and the fact that her father was a Smith alumnus. Dr. Rice also brought up the fact that Bush has now declared this week “HBCU Week” through out the nation. For one how do you all think about us having our own week, and do you think this is just a plot for more African-American students to vote republican? What you all think?

Dr. Rice said President Bush has made this week a " NATIONAL HBCU WEEK???? " Please  , if thats the case why the hell dont more HBCU's know that we have a week designed just for us, and why isnt there a lil more media coverage on it....You would think you may hear it somewhere else than besides the internet....Well it sure doesnt feel like we ( as HBCUs ) are being recognized at all. I aint stuntin that sh*t. If this is an national week for us then he needs to take his **** to some of our colleges and universities and make some speeches instead of sending one of his very few black cabinet members to do it, and pretty much " relay the message for him. " Hell, he is campaigning right now...why dont he campain his **** over to us...I would be more than curious to hear wut he has to say about everything going on and everything he has and HASNT done for the U.S. And of course for him to feed us some bullsh*t about wut he plans to do for the next four years and blah, blah, blah, blah... Anyways... just typing about him is pissing me off so I think yall are catching my point. BTW....I STAY missing all the political figures that come to FAMU. AL Sharpton was here like a week ago and I missed him...and Jesse Jackson suppose to be here this week or next week. Ima try to hear him speak.

I don't know if students know about it, but most workers and administrators know about it. As a matter of fact, it's on the hbcuconnect newsite. It's concentrating mainly in Washington, D.C., and culminates with the Prince George's Classic on Friday. http://www.hbcuweek04.com It's been held every September since 2002. Now, I'm no fan of Bush, but I will not knock his HBCU policy. As I've said before, he's a separatist and is eager to pour money into improving and supporting HBCUs. It keeps the negros out of the U of Texas.
