"Repping" your hometown

I was just wondering what makes people rep their hometowns to the point of ****, as if they had any control over their birthplace, especially when they move somewhere else for school or something. Let's say you have lived in a certain area until 18 and then you move to another area for college, do you have the same right to rep your area if you were born in an area and then moved 3 years after birth somewhere else, and then moved again and again? And what about the people who grew up in one area, then moved somewhere else to rep that area because they thought it was better than theirs. Also why do people rep football teams and such that they obviously have no control over? I'm just wondering peoples opinions about this

Dear marta, I am not "****." Yes, I know I am black, specifically African from the country of Ghana. Maybe you should re read my post, it says nothing about black people. I spoke generally, I did not specifically mention any race. Instead of rushing to conclusions it might benefit you to read and analyze before you respond with ignorance

Actually this is a very interesting topic. I always wondered the same thing. Why do people rep they're hometowns like that? It's not like they own the city! It's not personally theirs. We all rep our hometowns like we're reppin ourselves. When someone offends our hometowns they offend us....Anywayz MIAMI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First let me rep my city: Norfolk, VA (Naughty By Norfolk) and the rest of the 757 and seven cities: Virginia Beach (VA Beach), Chesapeake (Da Peake), Portsmounth (P-Town), Hampton (H-Town), and Newport News (Bad News) I think its just what people do like it is innate or something. I mean when you young and you rep yo hood in school, you rep yo school to let the other schools in the city knowm then when all everybody from that city city go somewhere, out of town or to the club or whatever, you rep yo city to let the other cities know who you are. Its like not forgetting where you came from or something. No dont let nobody disrespect you or something thats apart of you, so thats when things starts to jump off, especially in the clubs when the DJ starts calling out the cities to see whose in the building and dont let him play no Lil Jon or something while he shotin out yo hood and city. Its all over then. My other conclusion is some people just dont have no business or any sense and need something to do.
