I think you have had a good relationship with the guy for 5 years, so he does not want to risk hurting the friendship. Once you make a commitment, things get serious. However, since you are just friends, he can decide to move on or commit. Personally, if you have known each other for 5 years, it’s probably safe to commit and get serious. The greater the risk, the greater the potential reward.

I disagree with just about everyone. He is not scared of commitment. He pretty much told the girl he wanted a "...down **** girl...". "Down **** girl" does not equal a committed relationship. He pretty much have said how he was and he wasn't going to change. I find it amazing that she wrote him off until he realized he had a girlfriend. What kind of mess is that? Ole girl needs to move on. No relationship is gonna happen here.
