Mom, I think Im An Atheist

It's been a struggle but now it's official. I'm what you may call an Atheist. Now, I grew up in the church. My mother forced my sister and I to go to Bible Study as well as morning service EVERY Sunday. And on Wednesdays we went to J.A.M a program for preteen and teens. Don't get me wrong. My mother never had to drag me to go..I wanted to!! Oh man..I Believed. I believed so much that when I got saved I thought Jesus stood me up and walked me to the front of the church.... I'm a man now. I'm a man that has gone to college and gotten an education. My beliefs have changed. Through the study of World Religions and developing my own Philosophy on life. Did you all know that Shakespeare wrote a large portion of the Bible?? I mean Shakespeare!! I’m not going to go into every reason I don’t believe but I remember the LAST time prayed.... "God, I couldn't even exist on this planet without you creating it..." Then it dawned on me... "But if you’re the God that created me as well as the planets....Who created you?? How, can a God just *poof* out of nowhere?" Who thought of the idea of "God" any way. In the Hindu, religion there are thousands of "Gods". All in which have a symbolic meaning. You know morality, monogamy, faith etc..All of the Gods help the Hindu's live their life and manage in their area. The same could be said for Christianity. The faith in God, develops morality in people which helps us from killing ourselves to extinct. It also gives us faith that things will work out eventually. You know, I didn’t lose my faith. I just lost my belief in the idea of "god"... We think having faith means being convinced God exists in the same way we are convinced a chair exists. People who cannot be completely convinced of God’s existence think faith is impossible for them. Not so. People who doubt can have great faith because faith is something you do, not something you think...In fact, the greater ones doubt the more heroic they can be...

I would feel bad if I didn't. But just to let you know, if I ever start thinking like this, you have my permission to criticize.

like they all said, to each his own. I dont agree with you personally but you have the right to believe what you want. My father is a preacher and I believe in everything that he teaches me - and since i've came to college my belief in the lord has become stronger - as i am faced with day to day trials and tribulations. And one thing that is true is that yeah, most people who do go to church and believe arent perfect. but god doesnt want you to be perfect. The scripture says, " Every man falls short of the glory of God". I cant judge you for what u believe because I got to stand judgement one day and be judged my self. But I do hope you change you mind. P.S - " For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal Life" ROMANS 6:23

Just like I told you on AIM Marcus.... Sometimes the answers we're looking for are RIGHT in front of our face. Most people take for granted the ability to walk, talk, and function normally...where as people are born w/o sight, with out the ability to speak, or to be in their right mind Simple blessings that mean so much more.... God is ALL around us...I'm not going to question him because then he'll show you ...and I'm not sure I want God to show me. I really think you should pray about it...not saying go to church...but maybe speak to someone else about how you feel.... I'll be praying for u tho

There are so many things that I could say to dispute what you are saying because this type of subject makes me angry. On the other hand I am not in the place to judge or force my view points on you. I just hope that whatevr conclusion you come to is 100% what u feel is right

But see, the thing with me is that my feelings and beliefs "see-saw" so much. On one hand, I'm thankful to be normal, like how Tiph was describing. I'm thankful to have a job that I never really dread working. But on the other hand, why does God let some things happen to certain people? It's like, why is it so hard to be a Christian? Why are peoples beliefs always being tested? Why are things the way they are? I do believe there is a Higher Power, but as I've grown and gotten older, circumstances and situations (and man...let's not forget that) have skewed my views on God, Jesus, the Bible and all that good stuff. I hope I'm wrong, and I hope that somehow, someway...that something restores my faith.
