Africa: A Continent Plagued by Conflicts

Anybody who has seen Hotel Rwanda and has paid attention to the various atrocities going on in Africa must be in disbelief that the United States has barely bothered to help. Women in the Democratic Republic of the Congo are being gang **** in front of their husbands and children. In some cases the children are even forced to **** their own mother. This is partly due to the conflicts going on between the Hutu tribes that were forced out of Rwanda and the rebel forces that were assembled to fight them. And of course there was the **** in Rwanda. Women are being castrated. Somehow we can go into Iraq for no reason but we ignore these problems. Hopefully the G8 summit conference will help the solve these problems.

Unfortunately, a lot of these responses are based on what they get from the vast and various media... To no fault of our own.... Almost EVERY country in the motherland is enduring a SERIOUS violation of human rights and civil liberties that the UN and the US are doing nothing about... its only because we have no interests there... there is no **** or textile that we are in desperate need of... I mean... Africa has been stripped of far more than just her children, but her diamonds, her ****, her livestock, and her natural beauty... Until people REALLY make her a priority, change will not occur.. it is the simple rule of life... The important people have to care in order for everyone else to...

well, when Rwanda gained it's independence from Dutch control, the Dutch all left and just left the power to the Hutus, since they were the majority; and basically left the Tutsis to fend for themselves. so, the Hutus, then, took revenge for their past oppression and that's basically how mess started
ahh...thank you... yo, dis whole thread juss makes it sound like Africa is doomed..smh..what would it take to bring Africa (and the other 3rd world countries on different continents) up to par???...would it juss be "G8 intervention"...cuz u know, when they intervene...i dont really consider it as being too helpful (tho, dats what they say to make people feel better)

If you grasped that from my post, then I apologize... What I meant to emphasize was the fact that THOUGH Africa has endured centuries of being FuKKED over, she is still thriving... Since the G8 and other wealthy conglomerates of nations feel the need to put their noses in other's business... I think that this is a wealthy enough effort for them to put in their money and SOME troops... theres a major difference between giving assistance and trying to make the nation another America... @Buttascotch.. I'm not saying that people shouldn't listen to the media, just to be fully mindful of who is controlling it, thus you can then interpret what you are seeing.. for example.. the case w/ the girl in Aruba.... if her @ss was a middle class black girl in the same dumbas$ position, her case would have been dropped a long time ago.. Lawd knows that thousands of americans have gotten **** in other countries, but they (media) handpick what you should be appalled at... I have problems with that...

The entire continent of Africa is not in shambles. Certain regions are particularly in trouble. There are several areas in Asia where massive numbers of people die everyday. South America has various regions where death runs rampant. Africa is not the only place where people are suffering.

www.amnesty.org Amnesty International is one of the more famous organizations working to raise awareness and affect change. if you want to know more about issues all over the world and maybe even what you can do over here to help, i suggest going to this site and taking a peek. also, trying to read international newspapers that have been translated online or somewhere else can also be useful for gathering information. awareness is the first step. i disagree that "little" people can't change things if the "big" people don't care. who else has ever started the ball rolling?

juss so no1 misinterprets me...i dont mean the whole continent of Africa is in peril...but even the countries without civil wars & other atrocities need improvement (though it may look good on the outside, doesn't mean it's good on the inside..yall know how gov't is)...which is why i said "get up 2 par" (even tho, no country is up to par really if u think about it...cuz we all could be doing better)...and i also did say other "3rd world countries"...cuz i didnt wanna exclude anybody in South America or Asia or the Middle East..but seein as how we're talkin bout Africa..i juss wanted 2 be Africa-focused...

My bad for mixing up those tribe names. Cafe aulait is right, there are problems going on everywhere. In Columbia, dozens of children are being kidnapped everyday sometimes being forced to join a rebel army and being trained to ****. In some Asian countries, children are sold in to prostitution so they can bring money to their families. In the Middle East, women are being **** for cheating on their husbands. But u will never see this on the news. Sometimes they do have this stuff on Nightline. I watch the BBC news.

I brought other countries into the picture, because people tend to believe Africa receives little attention because 80% of its inhabitants are black. That may some truth in it, but that is not the only reason. No one was helping the Jews during the Holocaust until it was almost too late. Blacks aren't the only ones who are slighted. BTW- Did you all know Angelina Jolie is adopting an Ethiopian child??
