how is it disrespectful? and by wanting to know more about africa i'm not saying that there's something wrong with being a black american. i'm saying that i don't feel like my being has to be limited to what started on this continent. did "black americans" just appear out of the sky 400 years ago and get immediately forced into slavery? and i ask you again: if my roots don't go back there then where do they go?

Don't get upset. This is coming from the dude who I swear hates that he is an American. It's hella wierd to hear him saying that it's okay to be one. Lol.

Change = split personality, split gender, split sense... but it knows it ain't no Aff-ree-kaan... lucky her! I don't think we should carry the name unless we can trace our nationality back to an African land. That's the rule that applies for every other American, but then again, every other American didn't go through the same ****to get here as most Black Americans. What about me? I can clearly trace my roots back to a nation and a tribe, so what do I call myself? I encourage all of you to travel to Africa sometime. As for tracing your ancestry, if Igbo or Igala comes up, lemme know, "Cuz!"

nah its just confused. lookee here. It rather simple. *Looks at skin* First of all I'm not black.. i'm a shade of brown. In fact most people who identify with being African American are all kinds of shades not just black... so when one really thinks about labeling a people "black" in some ways a misnomer and somewhat derogatory isn't it MrMs. revolutionary... Same with "white". Think about it... how come Asians don't have to check off "yellow" when they are asked for their race... or "Bronze or whatever color for Hispanics and other races? Also, pretty much the point that everybody is trying to convey who has some sort of common sense is "Black" is no indicator of where my ancestors are originally from. It doesn't take rocket science to trace ones roots back to where they came from although giving our situation as a displaced people it is more difficult to pinpoint exactly where and who. But just like a child who may never get the chance to see or know their biological parents... no matter what the fact still remains that those individuals are what are responsible for the birth of that child. I know Africa is the place from whence so how dare you tell me and everybody who acknowledges that they are descendants of africans that its disrespectful to acknowledge my/their roots if they wish. On another note... Asians who have been born into this country for generations still consider themselves to be Asians and then Americans no matter how far down the line they are. The same with Hispanics and other races born in this country (even tho all still claim America they acknowledge where they came from). You mean to tell me people of African descent born in America can't? SMH...

  • Aggression or discriminatory behavior towards members of a certain race or races.
  • Aggression or discriminatory behavior based upon differences in ethnicity.
  • Ethnically or culturally discriminatory behavior exhibited by members of the racial, ethnic, or cultural group dominant within a society.
  • The practice of asserting or assuming racially or ethnically defined cultural dominance.
  • The perpetuation of racial, ethnic, or cultural dominance of some groups over others.
  • Opportunity inequality resulting from preferential treatment towards others of a similar cultural background.

Change... you must be white then. Cus you definitely have some post that reflect the above definitions, especially the bolded.
