I swear yall...the most random people that I would never expect getting into Hampton got in! I thought Hampton was a little more selective...It kinda makes me feel like crap...Its like telling me I could've slacked off all 4 years of highschool and still get in.....I guess it kind of irks me too because Im trying to get away from home but people from my area are getting into Hampton and all talking about going..I don't want "home" following me...I kind of want a new beginning and having people from my highschool isn't going to help. So what exactly is HU's requirements because....these are seriously people that I KNOW grades aren't so hot, have no extra-curricular activities, play no sports, and do NO community service.

Think of it this way too. Many HBCU's are willing to work with students who have less than what they prefer for them to have. Some even have summer schools that accept students that pass the courses they need to get into the school. The truth is the first year is like the weeding out year; if you dont pass your classes and do bad during academic probation, you gotta leave. In the end the students that work hard and get there education get the degree.

i applied a day after the deadline in 2005, a 2.8 overall high school GPA (3.8 senior year, so i think that helped) and a 1200 SAT. no extra curriculars. i guess they wanted more female computer science majors... maybe that has something to do with me getting in... or maybe cuz i have the same last name as the school's president... but yea hampton does be acceptin random people... i know this girl in my dorm who got in wit a 910 SAT, had a 3.1 overall GPA, and one extracurricular

I think schools, Hampton and Spelman included, are able to see determination and dedication. If a school selected only A+ students, there would be no diversity. Hampton has credentials, but is willing to go around them if the applicant shows determination. I know the essay plays a MAJOR role in most applications so maybe these other recruits had an excellent essay. Or maybe their SAT/ACT scores were higher than some with an excellent GPA. It is a case by case basis for most schools. And as far as high school following you: just because someone from your high school attends the same college as you doesn't mean you all will be roommates or even see each other that much. There are plenty of other people from around the country who were also accepted to that same college. Stop stressing; everything is going to work out.
