Okay well, I'm not in any organization. And I have to say that I support greeks, but sometimes I just don't get it. I understand what most of them were founded upon, and I think that the history of the organizations is very important. But I can't help but wonder if maybe the organizations' focus is a little blurry. I want to be in a particular org, and because of this I'm not suppose to wear certain colors. My wardrobe is filled with these exact colors. I'm not even on line. What does this have to do with uplifting people?
And to the member of Omega Phi Psi, you said that two of your fraternity brothers came to your aid. So is it safe to say that they would not have helped you if you were a regular person? It kind of seems like the fraternites soruties sort of divide in a way. In another forum a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated and a member of Delta Sigma Theta where going at it. So please excuse us regular people if we are a little skeptical about the motives of BGLOs. I respect the good that the organizations do, and believe that they were founded on good principles. But somewhere along the way, I think maybe the direction of the orgs may have gotten off, it is a nesscessity that the members get it back on the right track.

K-slay, I REALLY hope DST is not in your interest. I would hate to have to call you soror. Because I would hate to think that such a narrow-minded person who operates on tunnel vision would ever get into my sorority.Just because an AKA and I are debating our points doesn't mean that either organization is one of division. People have different things in their heart and both of us feel strongly about our organization and other issues as well. You are helbent on accentuating what you perceive as negative, in an effort to point and yell, "See! See! I told you!" over one incident.
^^^ I agree with you soror (oo-oop)....i just want everyone to know and never forget that a certain organization is not based on a certain chapter or a certain person....i'll use my chapter and organization for instance... Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorportated is bigger than Delta Iota of Grambling State University....DST is bigger than Shari....so if perhaps you see a certain person or a certain chapter acting in a certain manner, this doesn't mean that that represents the organization as a whole....you must do your research on history...not on appearance...

How am I being narrow minded? You know what? I'm done with this. I was not pointing the finger, and did you not pay attention to my entire message? Did I not say that I support what your organizations stand for? It seems that you are being a little closed minded yourself. Don't point out just the negative things about my message, I certainly did not point out only negative things about your organizations. And I am not helbent on accentuating what I perceive as being negative. I give your organizations all the props/respect/and encouragement that I give all of the other orgs. One incident did not bring me to my assumption that greeks may unintentionally cause division as oppose to uniting. I have seen many chapters of different orgs act all kinds of ways. Some of the ways are in a more positive light, others aren't. Your problem, is that you are so helbent on trying to make it seem like nongreeks are just hating. I'm trying to be as fair as I can when it comes to dealing with things like this. You said that if I wanted to be a member of Delta Sigma Theta, you would hate to call me sister, now that dosen't sound like a very "sisterly" thing to say. We (blacks) are all in this thing together, we are all supposed to treat each other like brothers and sisters anyway. So I have to have greek letters in order for you to consider me a sister? No. I know I can't tell you anything about your org, because I am not a member. Trust, I am not trying to disrespect your letters at all. The only thing I'm trying to do is to get you to look at things a little differently. I'm open to look at things in a different light. And believe you me, if I wanted to be a part of your particular org, I would be a very good assest.
tha topic is why greek....i just wanna know....why not greek?
I am a non-Greek but I can relate to a certain extent on what the Greeks are saying. I was a member of a step team that you didn't just try out to be a part of. You were put on line. Given a number, had specific tasks to complete, when through interrogation, were watched every hour of the day pretty much, etc. 8)
The least important part of trying out was learning the steps. We had to like you as a person first. I couldn't stand someone say that they wanted to be on the team to step or represent! I also couldn't stand to hear 'My cousin or sister is on the team so I am guaranteed a spot.' It showed that they were cocky and had no appreciation for us as a team. And when people asked about why we did community service we had to let them know that we were more than just a team, we were actually a sisterhood (we were called 'The Soul Stepping Sisters' not our team name, but our name indeed). And our business stayed our business, not everyone else's. And that was in High school.
Ever since I became a part of it, I grew as a person. I wouldn't trade my experiences for the world. So don't be disturbed by the way some respond to the questions. As far as Greek organizations go, you can't judge a book by its cover!
(I would like to reiterate that I am not a Greek so I cannot say that is why XYZ soror. or frat. does _____)
Just to add on, we didn't just step and do community services together either, but we don't talk about everything we did.
