When you stop eating meat, the calories that would normally come from meat come from other parts of your diet and we all know if you don't burn more calories than you consume, you're gonna gain weight or maybe maintain the weight you're at And by the way, fish is high in protein.
^^I thought Fish was a meat..or is it a vegetable?? But yea, if someone becomes a vegetarian they will be taking a HUGE step toward losing weight. Since meat contains protein, FAT and carbs it could add those unwanted love handles.. So if your active and your only eating lean foods(Which means no dairy products, cookies or candy bars) you will lose weight rapidly.

Just because you're vegetarian doesn't mean you're trying to lose weight because like I said, those calories that you get from eating meats is replaced with other calories, in the form of bread, for example. Sooo, yes, it is possible to be fat as all hell and still be a vegetarian. Also to me it seemed like you were saying that in order to call yourself vegetarian you have to stop eating meat altogether. I mentioned fish because you can eat fish (a meat which provides that necessary protein) and still be vegetarian.

Most people consider my family vegetarian, but we eat eggs, which are a form of animal protein. Do you have any questions?

Fish is a meat, however, only plants produce carbs. You do not need meat in order to be healthy, in fact, most of the health problems that plague the black community are due to pork and chicken. Beans, nuts and legumes provide a lot of protein. One just needs to know how to combine foods within their diets to produce healthy protein levels. You will not automatically loose weight by becoming a vegetarian, especially if you eat tons of dairy, cheese, pasta, white rice, and bread.

Actually, if you eat ANY type of flesh (fish, pork, goat, eel, shrimp, oysters, worms, chicken, beef, snails, shark, crab legs, etc.) means you are NOT a vegetarian. You just do not eat meat as much as the average American. A person who eats zero flesh or meat derivatives (milk, eggs, cheese, ice cream, etc. from cows, pigs, chickens, sheep goats, etc.) is a vegan.

I don't agree with that statement. If that were the case, why do they have so many vegetarian types, including those who consume fish and poultry yet are still classified as vegetarian?

Types of Vegetarians and Vegetarianism Macrobiotic Vegetarians A macrobiotic vegetarian diet excludes all meat, poultry, dairy produce and eggs, but at initial levels may include fish. Macrobiotic Diet - 10 Levels A macrobiotic vegetarian aims to maintain a balance between foods seen as ying (positive) or yang (negative). The macrobiotic diet progresses through ten levels, and becomes more and more restrictive. Not all levels are vegetarian, though each level gradually eliminates animal products. The highest levels eliminate fruit and vegetables, eventually reaching the level of a brown rice diet. A macrobiotic vegetarian diet is not recommended from a nutritional viewpoint. Pescetarian Vegetarians A pescetarian diet excludes meat and fowl but includes fish, although factory-farmed fish are usually avoided. A pescetarian diet is perfectly healthy. Fruitarian Vegetarians A fruitarian diet is a type of vegan diet which includes a minimum of processed or cooked foods. It consists mainly of raw fruit (75 percent), fruit-like vegetables (e.g., tomatoes, cucumbers), grains and nuts. Fruitarians eat only plant foods that can be harvested without killing the plant. Fruitarian diets are not recommended from a nutritional viewpoint. Sproutarian Vegetarians Sproutarians eat mostly sprouted seeds, grains, pulses and rice. http://www.vegetarian-diet.info/vegetarians-types.htm
