So I got this question from the latest VIBE magazine...and the choices were: Tupac, Will Smith, Queen Latifah, Mos Def, Ludacris, DMX, and Ice CUbe. Who you think made the best transition into acting and why? I'll be back with mine later....

will smith, for the reasons that have been stated mos def as a very close second- him in "something the lord made" was a very important role and he held it down. latifah, she's believable in her roles. it's good for people to try different roles but not to the point where you feel they're trying too hard.

Queen Latifah, Will Smith, and Mos Def Ice Cube never plays anything that will get him an Oscar. Mos Def is multi-talented, I heard he was on Broadway doing his thing. Will Smith was a good rapper with DJ Jazzy Jeff but umm when he came out, he was not as effective. And Queen Latifah...AWESOME! Luda has not been out there long enough to even generate an insightful response. Tupac was a good rapper and poet but actor, he was not given the chance to fully expand upon his potential.

Mos Def, he is one rapper that really surprised me with his acting, he can play different roles, and play them extremely well. Will Smith, second because I haven't really seen him do anything earth shattering yet, Ali was great but it wasn't as good as I thought it would be.

DMX ****...he is playin himself on a normal day in all his movies.. Honorable Mention goes to Nas in BELLY...he did a good job but unfortunately he didnt choose no other roles so we couldnt see him grow as an actor. And cosigns to everyone who said Tupac was a good actor, but because of his untimely death we didnt get to see him expand into his acting career more, but the potential was definitely there. I loved him in Poetic Justice.

Queen Latifah . . .Will Smith . . .Mos Def Tupac, was a hard sell in Poetic Justice, because the movie was so stupid. But he was perfect in Juice. He used that vehicle to help promote his album which had just been released about two months before. Tupac went to high school to study acting and dance. He began as a dancer for Digital Underground. One of his first roles was in a production of A Raisin In the Sun, in NYC. So technically, Tupac was an actor who became a rapper.

thats tru cause the performing arts school he went to in Baltimore was the same one Jada Pinkett attended...which is how they met...and then they both played on A Different World for awhile together...

You read my mind. People forget that. Thats why he was such a convincing rapper. Alot of the stuff he may not have lived but he knew how to portray it... Anyway... my write in is Mark Whalberg aka Marky Mark lol. He's has some great roles in his acting career. Definitely Will Smith when it comes to the people in that list... Independence Day... 6 degrees of separation. Ali... dude is the truth yo. He's right up there with Denzel in terms of good roles and performance.

lol...you read my mind, cause I came back into this thread just to mention his name...lol...we all remember him as being apart of the " Funky Bunch  " but he does some good acting...that movie he did FEAR with Reese Witherspoon was wild, he has done some other since then that was good, and Im curious to see the movie he got comin out with Tyrese and I believ Andre 3000 called " 4 Brothers " or sumthing like that... But yea Mark Wahlberg aka Marky Mark is a good one too.
