How Much Does It Cost?: Becoming Greek

:-D I JUST got an inside confirmation or two that my son is an "invited" Alpha!!!!! (he is going to go for it) He got two "invites" which was nice. I actually helped him a little so, what I want to know how much should I budget for these expenses? My son has no idea (obviously)...so your help would be great. If I got the terminology mixed up forgive me...I am just SOOOO happy for him!

he thinks I am WAY TOO INVOLVED with Boo(son). He also is clear that son's Greek Journey is NOT mine
I agree with him...and it would be wise to stop discussing this

Clarity: Son get's significant funds already on the regular because hubby and I believe that his "job" is his school. He get's about $300 to $400 per month. My hubby thinks it's like half that and hubby is not happy about that...shhh. We are shipping him a car because things are a little dangerous. He has full meals and we pay 100% tuition, fees, books, travel and so on so forth. I send him monthly care packages, like mother's do, so I am not sure if I have to do more with his latest success. FYPM: I just saw your post before I hit submit...I DO "baby" him but when it comes to this Greek stuff and other "life passages" son is "all-man". My hubby and his dad told me last year that I had no place in son's Greek transition . Actually, son has a tad bit of "bad" in him...I attribute it to him California upbringing and to the times he commandered with his rough **** cousins from the deep east of Oakland..."pookie & em" fo sho. He got that good old "act right" from his Jack and Jill, private school, cotillion and other black middle class days but mainly...you would not know it! Cause he be actin like this alot... :?
So you're saying that you son is single? If so.... Lol just kidding. Tell him much love and good luck.

If your son has been accepted for a new intake class, he should have been directed to have the money available within a few days. I suggest you not post Beta chapter business on an open forum like this. I MIGHT BE A REGIONAL OFFICER. . . and things are looking mighty shady from my viewpoint. As far as, expenses, continue your allowance, that is way more than enough for pledging/intake by the old AND new processes. If he knew he wanted to participate, he should have either had this conversation with you all at the beginning of his sophomore year OR been saving up the money. It's preferable for him to pay for it out of his own pocket. Students tend to appreciate the opportunity better. AND WE DO NOT HAVE A LEGACY CLAUSE, so your sons acceptance is still at best provisional. Now, please for the love of God and all that is good about black greekdom, NEVER post things of this nature again. As a matter of fact, let me call my frat in DC, right now. . . you say you're from California right? Oh this will be really easy. . . .
Wait... Beta Chapter... your son goes to Howard? Oh yes... it's private message time!

Wile: Her son should not be punished for his mother's ignorance. I mean why ruin his chance of getting into the organization b/c his mother doesn't know how to **** out? I hope that all works out.............

:veuze: WOW!!! Sorry, sorry and sorry some more! Seems like a WHOLE lotta folks lurk the internet...take action(phone has not stopped ringing)...and what I did was not intentional but not the best move to make. I thought "celebrating" and "researching" in cyber-space would be better than talkin' to the competetive, cut-throat mom's that I know...BAD MOVE. I only hope that my son "recovers" from my mistake. Alpha's are nice and forgiving to mom's...ONCE. I am no way rich or trying to floss, front, etc. The stuff I do is so every-day(boring) on my block. Matter of fact, I am the poor-ist of the bunch and that do not bother me. If I got under your skin, I duly apolgize. This is not why I am here. I just want to make sure I am in touch, through constructive feedback, with what is within the "range" of reason..reasonable for a black college kid. WILE: I know the deal with legacy....thanks to my husband who is furious with me(again). I appreciate your call outs. Be upset with me for my ignorance...PM me like "everyone" else has...in "love" but, exempt my California son from your reach. Thanks!
you are so strange..................your son should already be "aware" of the expenses if he was "invited" :???:

If "CollegeMom's" situation were "real", I would suggest she take the **** out of her son's mouth and let him be a man. He's old enough to find his own way without her running behind him trying to change his diaper every five minutes.
