After much deliberation and reasearch I have come to the conclusion that ..... Howard University is really the best HU in all the land. Simple because a) I've never heard anyone say, "Hey Shawty, we need to take a roadtrip to Hampton for they homecoming! I heard P.Diddy was gonna be there!!!!" b) Howard has a Law School. I mean......what's REALLY FOCKING with that?

I think both Hampton and Howard are great schools. Although Howard is older(by a year), Hampton is growing rapidly. OUr last fundraising compaign (2003 Dreaming no Small Dreams) raised more money than any Other HBCU; 264 million dollars. I'd also like to add that black enterprise magazine ranked Hampton the NO.2 school for black kids and Howard was No.4 behind spelman. So if we keep growing like we have been, it won't be a HU vs Hu war, because the winner will be clear. Just adding my two cents.

 The winner is already clear to Hamptonians, lol, just not to others blinded by the myths. Anybody that got into Hampton could have gotten into Howard, TRUST (financially and academically speaking) or transfer there for that matter. HIU will continue to excel by setting our own standards higher and higher. BTW, that BE Magazine rankin I think was an error cuz Hampton had a HIGHER SCORE than morehouse college, so im not sure what they were lookin at???? Based on scores, we were #1

very good reasoning. i live in lawrence, kansas. home of the all important fluckin jayhawks. and i would rather not go to college than go to university of kansas. but you have to give howard points for historical signifigance. i mean, brown vs. board changed the course of american education and the landscape of both primary, secondary, and post secondary education would be very different without it. plus, we've got so much star power. p diddy, despite his lack of completion, (but, technically, he was awarded an honorary degree, so he still counts), debbie allen, ossie davis, toni morrison, zora neale hurston, omar tyree, ananda lewis, etc. and the political importance of the campus and it's population is huge. now, anyone who goes to, or knows someone who goes to, howard knows that we may have our administrative issues, in that u can't get anything done without a validation sticker, and you can't get a validation sticker for anything, we still have a strong academic reputation. and i suppose i'd be remiss in my duties as a howard student if i didn't mention the fact that we brought in 72 national achievement scholars, which is the largest number for 2003.
I read something that said Omar Tyree went to Univ. of Pittsburgh.

Im wondering if howard was ranked #1, if the comment would have even been said  But I do agree in part and disagree. Rankings are definetly not everything and don't always show the total picture or are always accurate (as evident in the ranking of BE Magazine) At the same time, NOT ALL rankings in ALL Magazines are bullsh*t. You have to look at the criteria of the ranking, how they came to the final order, and the reliability of the source. Also, if you are consistently ranked in the top by several different sources, I think its safe to feel pretty confident. Im sure howard has been and maybe still is ranked #1 in something by somebody.

Although I haven't officialy started my college education yet, I must say choosing Hampton over Howard does not make Hampton a better school. I was offered a full ride at Hampton and a guy from the alumni association practically begged me to come there saying that the Hampton experience was like no other. However, I chose to go to Howard, which only gave me tuition and fees, because Howard's legacy is priceless. Howard is recognized by both whites and blacks as one of the leading universities for educating blacks. To be honest, not that many whites in Alabama have heard of Hampton. Both are good schools and to me no ranking by any magazine can state which one is better than the other. If I were a pre-med, pre-law, or a business major I would definitely choose Howard over Hampton. It's about choosing the school that will help you in the long run. Unless you plan on going pro in football, I fail to see how Hampton beating Howard makes Hampton a better school. Like I said it's all about choosing the school that works for you.

Exactly. Hampton is by all means a great school. So is numerous amounts of HBCU's even the ones that sometimes get overlooked, but it is about choosing a school that is best for you and your major.

I didn't feel like quoting the person...but why is it that just because white people don't know about a certain black school then all of a sudden its not all that its cracked up to be. Or if they've heard about a certain HBCU then its all high and mighty....NO! Hell they don't know half of their own schools exist.

^^^That's what I'd like to know :? Why are some people looking for whites (in Alabama, no less  ) to validate OUR schools?
