My Fellow Greeks, Do you talk as freely to GDIs on campus as you do here? Open/Unmoderated Greek Forums are breeding grounds for Perps. Open/Unmoderated Greek Forums also give Aspirants a great deal of information that many of you had to learn firsthand through your journey to Greekdom. Save those conversations for private listservs and moderated boards. Some of you folks explain far too much at times. You've shown yourself to worthy in someone's eyes, you don't need props from anyone else in reference to your Frat or Sorority. Yes a lot of these people you interact with here were your friends before you crossed, but they aren't in your GLO. Loose Lips Sink Ships. Fraternally Yours, laidbackfella

True. Change is right, aspirants do need basic information. The problem is not with getting it though, the problem is with how you go about getting it. There are many books out there that can help you get this basic information. With the technology there is now, you can simply type in the name of an org. in a search engine. You can't expect members to hand you info and most likely it wasn't handed to them. If you want something bad enough, you're willing to take it upon YOURSELF to learn about it and become familiar with it...it makes you want it even more.
Actually they NEED nothing from GLO's except for a fair and impartial process if they are given they chance to make it on someone's line. They NEED go to class and do their work. They NEED to be actively doing community service. There is no amount of information obtained beforehand that will help them if they are selected to continue with any given GLO.
Ok I am just a bit confused on your response to DSTined When I read her comment, I took it as anybody interested in a GLO needs to know the basic information. And in order for them to get that basic information they should take it upon themselves to research GLO to get the information and not expect members of a GLO to give them that information. Which is true. Now I agree with you about they need to go to class, do their work and community service. But I didn't understand where you got this statment from,

Now I agree with that comment, but I didnt read in DSTined's comment where she said anything like that. (or maybe you was just making a general comment). And I'm sure you are right about this statement,

but don't you think that aspirants NEED to and should know basic information about the organization they are interested in? I mean I think it would be rather sad if a Greek asked one of their prospects something as simple as the date their organization was founded and the prospect responded with "I don't know it and I don't need to know that, you all will teach me everything I need to know if I make line." But yeah, if you could clear that up I would appreciate it.

Cupcake, you read my statement correctly. I wasn't saying that they should have this information provided by GLOs. I was saying, however, that it is necessary. I also said if they want it bad enough, they will seek it. I can't speak for every one of my fellow Greeks, but I know I didn't go into seeking Delta with no basic information. I wanted to know what it stood for and was that what I stood for.

Going to fundraisers and other events doesnt show you what the organization is truly about. I think that a aspirant is better prepared when they have an in-depth conversation with a member of the organization. Where that member can share experiences, and better explain what those three letters are about. While the member is giving some information, NO ESOTERIC infomation about the organization will be handed out..
