....aiight, so I see people starting free posts all the time, I figure I can do it too. Only twist is, if you gon' post something......let it be intellectual (i.e nothing about a party, grad nite, or shout-outs) something tells me this post is gon' die quickly....... :roll: oh well, i gave it a shot!

My friend said something that disturbed me the other day. He, a student at the Catholic University of America(in D.C.), said with a straight face "I would have never went to an HBCU because I want success". That comment blew me, but unfortunately in my near 20 years knowing him I wasn't suprised because this is the same guy who insists that I go back to relaxing my hair and says that he has got a tan and is now too dark to wear white like that. Anyway, i just shook my head and told him he needed to get rid of "that mentality" I just dont understand how one can look at the achievements of schools like Howard, Morehouse, Spelman, Fisk and others and say that you can't be sucessful at a black college. Even where i attend, Bowie State University, which is not the best school but getting better, I KNOW college is what you make of it and I certainly plan to make the most out of it. So basically my people, this free post is for the love of ALL our hbcu's...big and small. Be PROUD to be an hbcu student, i know I am LOL

Wow queen you are beautiful. But unfortunatly I am sure that we all have heard this ignorant thinking that HBCU's don't produce scholars and it is going to be much harder graduating from an HBCU than a PWI. As soon as somebody tells me this bullcrap I quickly pull out my list of scholars who have changed the world tremendously from HU, Morehouse and other great HBCU's. This evidence is irrefutable and we are still doing it today. Howard has graduated 3 Rhode Scholars in the last 5 years, not many IVY leagues can say that. Howard in 1992 (I believe) sent the most black students to Harvard Law than any other school and constantly sends them every year. You can't tell me that you can't be successful coming from an HBCU, too many have done it before you.

i know what you sayin' gurl about the whole people dissin' the HBCUs, my teacher really be clowin' all the time. He always talkin' about he went to MIT (for a semester) and UCLA (for another semester). And you see where that got him???? I job workin' for whack a$$ LAUSD. I can't wait 'till I flash my Howard Diploma in his face and smack him with a big **** of hundreds. :lol: :lol: got dayum white people always got something smart to say :x but don't sleep, cuz ni99as and black folk be hatin' too....and yes, there is a difference between the two.

you would think after proving to people time and time again that hbcu students can be just as successful that we wouldnt have to stiill deal with this brand of crap if u take a good look at the executive offices' of america's top corporations u would see a significant number of them coming from hbcus

You probably have better chances career-wise with a HBCU. Although some majority schools are said to look better on credentials... Any businessperson can tell you that networking is much more important. HBCU's have the tightest networks, period. Once you find another professional that graduated from your HBCU, it's friends for life. Almost like being a member of an exclusive club. You simply can't say the same thing about schools like Penn or UMD with a 20,000 member student body. Once you make a connection with some alumni, you're in there. Holla!

do any of you think that there will ever be a true alliance between African Americans and Africans?? ......cuz the way I see it, not many african americans like them, and not many of them like us too much. divide and conquer I guess.... :roll: .....

Why do some blacks feel to look down on Africans? I'm dark skinned, and many people try to clown and say "ohh....you ol african lookin...." even though i dont know much about where my ancestors came from. Why should it matter if i was from Africa or look like an African

Exactly. A group that is not together can not succeed together! Africans and African Americans are one in the same. Africans were STOLEN from Africa and taking to America.Then the white man created a line to divide(like always).

Seeing as how there is barely even an alliance between blacks in America now I find it hard to imagine how we can come together with Africans anytime during our generation...sadly enough :? How come we have yet to really grasp the phenomenon unity that has helped Jews, Hispanics and other minority groups progress? There was a time when we had it, but somewhere along the line...

Actually, if you can get up with anyone that graduated from an HBCU, then you've got a real connection. For example: The biggest black construction firm in the world is owned by a graduate of Howard University. He seriously doe look out for us. Since he hires many people that graduated from HBCUs as contractors, engineers, and the rest of the lost, it comes as no surprise that many of the people that work under them are from HBCUs as well.
