ACADEMICALLY ELITE HBCU???

I was just wondering which HBCUs are known to have the highest academic standards and best reputation for excellence? I did a little research on it before, but the only schools I can still remember are... Howard Morehouse Clark Spelman FAMU Hampton Dillard Stillman Xavier Tuskegee I know there were at least one or two more on my original list, but can't remember what they were. Any glaring omissions? Also, what academic area are these schools best known for? For example, I know FAMU has an excellent reputation for business. Finally, what are the top 2 or 3 HBCUs to attend for an education degree? I know that's a lot of info to ask for, but I have 3 or 4 friends considering attending HBCUs that are asking me for advice, and I don't know enough to tell them. Thanks in advance for any help.

I believe that there is learning going on at every institution but the best education a black person can get will come from a HBCU no doubt. I think that all the HBCUs listed are good but I'm a little biased and I'm going to have to go with HOWARD on this one, it's not called the MECCA for nothing! :lol:

While A&T maybe know for its engineering program. It is not the #1 producer of black engineers, that school would be to Ga. Tech because of the 3-2 engineering program they have in the AUC

I go to Xavier! Its a great school and it is pretty much a school for future doctors and scientists. Nearly all of my friends or people i have met at xavier are either biology chemistry or psych pre-med majors. With xavier's rep everybody thinks that attending Xavier garauntees you admission to med school, but many find out its really up to them to get into med school not Xavier. I just finished my freshmen year and I know a lot of people who aren't coming back because they underestimated the seriousness of a school like Xavier. Dont get me wrong though Xavier has a great program designed to helping students get into to med school and be prepared but its up to the student to do the work and take advantage of those resources. But I LOVE IT! I wouldn't want to go to any other school! :lol: and yes i am a bio pre-med major looking to go to johns hopkins for med school (neuroscience, it looks like a field that could use some strong black women )!

I attend Howard and this may be true Hampton is known as the Harvard of the south whereas HOWARD UNIVERSITY is known as the "The Black Harvard"...its a big difference. We are the mecca of black education the Black American dream...the Creme de la Creme of the talented tenth....

im a rising high school junior now...and I'm interested in majoring in bio/pre-med...I heard that Xavier's dormitories are **** looking and there's only one male dorm...im a male...how do the men there feel about Xavier...im also interested in FAMU and Howard for the same major (bio/pre-med) just trying to find out some stuff

My thoughts on the Black Ivy League :lol: HOWARD = Black Harvard (speaks for itself) FISK = Black Yale (Both share school nicknames -Bulldogs, and very strong academics) MOREHOUSE = Black Columbia or Penn SPELMAN = Black Vassar, Smith, or Wellesley (All-Female 7 sister thing) TUSKEGEE = Black MIT (Science and engineering thing) XAVIER = Black Notre Dame or Georgetown (Catholic school thing) HAMPTON = Black Stanford (Private Institution with Great athletics and academics) FLORIDA A & M = Black University of Michigan (Public Institution with great football and academics)
