I'm not a N*gga!!

Due to recent post and extreme use of the word I thought that I would make this post. I wrote a novel called "I'm not a n*gga", that explained the history of the word and how it has evolved and the power that it has had on our people. Well the overall purpose of that novel (really short story) was to tell why we shouldn't refer to each other as n*ggas and how it is hypocritical to get mad at another race for using it when you use it everyday. Everybody who knows me knows that I can't stand the word (just ask Wizdom and FAMU_first) I try to protest when ever I hear somebody using it but I find that I am often alone in my thinking and to many people it has just become another word, and it is often too energy consuming. I think there was a post like this before but, HOW DO Y'ALL FEEL ABOUT THE WORD N*GGA!

Dats tha same question i wuz askin tha first time i seen tha video. i dont even kno what to think anymore. i cant figure out y there hasnt been a big uproar about fat joe usin tha word but j'lo couldnt see tha end of it when she used it like once in her song. and eminem says he would never stoop that low and use that word. honestly i grew up with tha word comin out of everybody's mouth including my 6 yr. old cousin. it's seems almost impossible to stop usin tha word

if I ever meet Fat Joe , I would ask nicely to stop using that word and will give him a little education. If he continues using that word , I will snap his neck in two!!! I think he gets a pass because he is from the Bronx. It does not matter to me he should not use that word. Its not fair, because if Enimem was to use the word he would have to join the witness protection program!

i definitely noticed fat joe's use of the word and how BET and radio stations still play it. i had a problem with it. i don't use the word. i don't like the word being used around me. i don't like other races saying it. i feel like it's not right for a race to use the word when it's not even a part of their history. i think it's bad enough black people use it so freely without other people saying it.

Well I cant say I hate the word n*gga because I use it all the damn time in my vocabulary. Its just funny how black people use the word all the time, but soon as they hear a white person say n*gga, they ready show a fade.

Fat Joe usin the word isnt any worse than a black person usin the word...he uses it in the same context as other black folks. we cant expect him to not use it if we think that the crippling word is ok just for us to use. the point is, the word carries a lot of baggage, no matter what context, but intelligent people wont focus on the word alone...instead, they should try and educate others to abandon the word all together....after all, it is only a couple of english syllables!

^^^ Very true the word is crippleing no matter who uses it and should be done away with ASAP. However, I still find it ironic that that even the people who use the word don't find it offensive for other races to use it anymore. It is really sadly just becoming any other word to them.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the word or the usage of it. I think there is something wrong with the intent behind it coming from the individual. For example, two guys saying "what up ****" there is nothing wrong with that because the intent is positive. If a white dude says "what up ****" I really have no problem with that depending on his intent. If I feel like he was intending to be disrespectful then that's not cool. If I feel that he was just cool with it, who gives? I only take offense when I feel there is an intent to be offensive, (and even then I don't take offense because I know the problem is not mine it stems from an internal problem with the person being offensive). Like the original usage of the slang term ****, it was used with negative intent. This is not cool. Now the evolved **** is most often used with good intentions, which makes it fine by me. Even though the word was used in a harsh context towards ancestors I harbor no hard feelings for those individuals.

I completely agree with you. I think it would be absolutely preposterous to even entertain the thought of asking Fat Joe to refrain from using the N word in his music. It amazes me how black people love to live life by a double standard. As I mentioned in an earlier post, it seems as if we have made the trite expression “do as I say, not as I do” the hallmark of our lives. The N word is offensive regardless of who is using it or who it’s directed towards. No offense, but the notion of “turning the bad into a good”is absurd. As far as BET playing the video is concerned, I gave up on that network a long time ago. Any intelligent person can blatantly see that BET is trash. It caters to the uneducated and the uncultured. I don’t feel Fat Joe’s song or video is any more degrading or offensive then the work of Nelly (Tipdrill, PimpJuice) and the majority of other black rappers.

see this is a major problem that is difficult to fix. When african americans allow other races to call them ni99a. It would be hard chastise the other race when you have a fellow A.American defending the other race. Has any one heard of the African American Harvard Professor (last name is Kennedy , dont know first) who came out with the book called "****"? It analyzed the word and discussed , but its purpose was to make white people feel comfortable with the word?? Yes , i know Uncle Tom in the flesh :roll: Then a week later there were notes on the Harvard students study websites that used the word and other racest slurs on the in emails to African American and all were by anonymous (scared **** ****) white people who were later caught. As for the professor he was not available for comment...uncle tom hiding in the house. :roll:

I totally agree this word does carry lots of baggage but black people are going to continue to use it. The word has somehow become a part of us and we've made it as positive as we could. At the same time I do believe that none of us can get angry when another race uses it as a term of endearment because we do the exact same thing no one can really honestly get that offended, we've done that ourselves!
