Hmm, I think those performers have soul. Well, I wouldn't really call Em "soulful" but I get the gist of what you're asking. I dunno if they're faking the funk, and if they are...they're doing it really damn well for people who have none.
I just think it's something they were brought up on or raised on...if you heard "soulful" music growing up, aka black music, you're bound to reproduce it when you perform.
What is soul and where does it come from? Hmm, I'm gonna go with the heart and from personal experiences and emotions. To not only know the mood or feeling of the song, but to feel it too.

Sure white folks can have soul. It all depends on the lifestyle you're used to. If you grew up around a "soulful" environment, then it's going to show when you perfom like Africa Black said. If the only thing you know is traditional white america, then those influences just wont be as prevelent.
White people can have soul. Its just that none of the ones that you posted have it.
how can somebody growing up win the subrbs have soul? taylor hicks....i thik he's faing the funk. and we all know that eminem is fake as hell...just listen to his music....he's nothing but another angry white boy...why do these cats get so angry when daddy walks out? when that happened, they just start cutting themselves and want to break stuff. noboy's scared of you :???:
