Happy New Year Everyone!! (i'll try to keep this as short as possible)
I am interested in pursuing membership in XYZ. I finally decided to go for it at the beginning of this past semester, and have made it a priority to keep my grades up and attend as many programs given by the organization as I possibly could. But after doing some thinking, I figured that maybe I'm not a strong enough candidate.
- GPA- I meet the requirements, but I had one bad semester and ended up with an F,D, and two C's on my transcript. And I was unable to go to summer school and make up the classes. Other than that, the rest of my transcript is good, but I know that one bad semester will count against me. My GPA is around a 2.8, might be higher.
- Community Service- I have done some over this past semester but it wasn't as much as I had planned to do, but I will be doing consistent community service everyday once the semester starts again next week. I know of other interested girls that have been doing service consistently for months, thats why I feel as if I haven't been doing enough, because they have so much more hours.
- I don't know the members of XYZ very well- I only know two of them personally b/c they were both RA's in my dorm last year. I speak to them when I see them b/c they're nice people aside from the fact that they are in XYZ. Out of respect, I have never expressed my interest to them personally, but I have been to enough programs that they might know by now.

Go ahead and still try it out. If anything, at least you can have the experience under your belt. And even if you don't make it, they can see that you are dedicated. If anything, the following year they can witness your growth and improvement from the first time around, and that might work in your favor. I know it's cliche, but you really will never know until you try.
Go out of it, and if you don't make it, use that as motivation to get your grades up and participate in more community service.
As far as approaching them goes, it comes with the territory. I'm not sure about the atmosphere on your campus, but i'd always recommend discretion. Don't be a stalker, but at the same time, make yourself visible and be sociable.
What do you have to lose? *shrugs*

Thanks everyone that replied! I went on ahead and went to rush and everything...I decided that I had been way in too deep to give up. I turned in my application and everything, so I'm waiting patiently for a phone call, a letter (prayerfully, a letter of acceptance), something to let me know what's up.
I'm really hoping that everything works out for the best. If not, I'll definitely try again next year.
